Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Exactly same thing. Zero problems with "short-sleeps". Long-sleeps same story.

    This is STILL BROKEN!!!

Mine is also Lot #/Date 1601 (swapped for another SP4 that corrupted itself during forced shutdown/reboot at Microsoft Store in Austin on the fateful 2/17).  All of the info reported by CPU-Z on mine is identical to what dkb1898 posted, and what you said you have working (right down to same steppings, BIOS revs, etc.)  Mine has all updates applied, no exclamation marks in Device Manager, and is still almost virgin (default sleep policy w/only a few minor setting changes: no sleep when plugged in, and turning off WiFi updates when sleeping (both boxes unchecked in Settings/System/Power&Sleep/WiFi).)  Whatever's wrong or different in the hardware (if anything is), it takes more than a simple CPU-Z scan to sort out the SP4s that work from the ones that don't.

Mine works better for short sleeps now, but I left it asleep for a couple of hours this morning, and when I opened it up again, it didn't wake, showing the usual symptoms for my SP4: keyboard backlight turns on (after pressing power button - opening Type Cover alone did nothing, but the machine is completely unresponsive to any input, including the usual magic keystroke combos (which have never worked for me, anyway...)

Once again, the ONLY way to get it to respond again was to perform a forced power-down and then reboot clean.

I am now fully convinced that Microsoft is simply not capable of fixing this problem.  Sleep works for a short time better, but it's definitely NOT reliable, and as we've been over many times here, this is the sort of thing that should "just work" 100% of the time, every time.

So, Microsoft, do we get to wait another few months with fundamentally broken computers while you again try (maybe) and fail (almost certain) to actually fix this problem? Will you ever speak to us?  Do you care at all that we've been lied to, ignored, abused, and we still can't use our Surface devices in any way even remotely like what you advertise?

I can also verify that the sleep issue has resurfaced in my Surface Pro 4

When the latest update came out last week, I lasted almost 5 days of the Pro 4 waking up from sleep like its supposed to, before the sleep issue re-presented itself.

Its quite annoying to be sure.

    And...it's baaaaack :-)

Made it more than a week too!

Oh well.  Just going to live with it until they fix it.  Oh wait.  Yea, just going to live with it.

Now to look into this thing called a Macintosh computer....heard those things "just work".

Hi again Lord Zemus and others:

Sunday morning report is there has still been no blank screen on wake.  Defective early batch seems more and more likely to be the culprit.  Tested with all the bells 'n' whistles, including Hello facial recognition, second user also with Hello, lots of applications installed and running concurrently - no problem waking from sleep.  Battery drain is with barely a few low-key things running, such as Mail, Edge (which I gather is at the heart of many a problem) and perhaps File Explorer.

BUT after putting build 14316 back last night, some of the original problems do seem to return.  I think it's Hello in particular that trips up the waking from sleep: I see the infrared light on, but screen blank, and that's it.  Had to hard reboot a couple of times.

So as seems to be the larger diagnosis, it's the OS itself that is botched - they need to fix this problem permanently (one that, for some miraculous reason, no other tablet maker on the planet seems to be plagued by...).
