Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Thanks, but that has never worked on my machine.  Nor has Ctrl-Windows-Shift-B or Alt-P.

    If Ctrl-Alt-Del works to wake up your SP4 from a black screen after sleep, could you tell us your hardware configuration? (I have i5 8GB 256Gb)

    Sometimes you should using Ctrl+Alt+Delete just after trying wake up while its display seems to off.

    Thanks for sharing your experience.  This "fix" didn't work for me back when Microsoft Support suggested it soon after the February firmware made the waking issue much, much worse on my SP4.  But I thought I'd give it another go, just in case things are different with the latest updates.

    I followed your list of instructions exactly after doing a fresh reset from the recovery image and running Update until nothing changed.  SFC /SCANNOW came back with no errors.

    It didn't help - I experienced the usual black screen/lit keyboard issue upon waking within a few hours.

    Is your machine still waking correctly every time?

    That's one of the reasons I'm leaving my SP4 as virgin as possible after the Reset.

    FWIW, mine is still crashing and burning:  I walked over to it this morning (it was asleep or hibernating, I presume, as all settings are default), undocked it, and it refused to turn on with the usual black screen of death.  (Keyboard lit, etc. once I attached the Type Cover.)  Had to hold down power button for longer than normal, it seemed, to force shutdown. 

    Makes me wonder if it might have been OK if I had awakened it before undocking...

    Hey Microsoft!  This is still broken!  Fix it! If that means you have to provide us all SP3's and then swap for newer, reliable machines (SP5?) when available, then so be it.  There is no way we should have to put up with computers that so blatantly deviate from what you advertise as portable, reliable, productive, instantly usable, and with long battery life (not to mention the kind of implied expectation that it won't catch fire in your briefcase...)
