Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I just set mine to hibernate, but it seems the only fix is to go to a Microsoft Store, show them your device keeps Black Screening, and getting a NEW unit. In my limited tested, your workaround, is working.

Unless people with newer units that do in fact come in and out of sleep can verify that their USB Power Management is in fact disabled, I seriously caution using this and thinking you have a fixed unit.

And yes, that was part of the whole promise of the SP4 and Skylake, "s0 sleep" which allows your device to sip power. 2-3% an hour is A LOT. I never saw these issues with my Surface 2, if I didn't use it for a week, it would still have battery, granted not much. And that was with Connected Sleep, so WiFi was still active.

Before the February update that really enabled s0 sleep, my device slept fine and was around the 2-3% per hour drain, which is common for s3 sleep that's on all Windows Desktop devices we've been used to for the past 10 years. S0 sleep, again was a major selling point for me in getting the SP4, and having it replace my laptop and Surface 2.

I'd just hate for people to apply this workaround, and think they having a working unit, when in fact it is probably behaving exactly like an SP3 and every other windows machine for the past 10 years.

Are people getting that kind of performance from sleep? I've just come to accept the sleep battery drain as a fact of life, but if everyone else is getting days of sleep I'll have to investigate further.

Perhaps I went too far by calling it a fix. Let's call it a stop gap. A fix would be MS actually releasing a patch that resolves this problem. Since I've been waiting for that patch since Windows RT I'm not sure if one is forthcoming. Either way, I'll take the battery drain instead of the failure to wake. That way I won't have to deal with the slings and arrows of outrageous comments like "You should have gotten a Mac" when promising a presentation, but delivering a blank screen and an awkward pause. Also, the continual restarting was having some strange and adverse affects.

Thanks Mike, this prevented my device from the Black Screen overnight. That said, I would caution using this fix and thinking the problem has been resolved..

I don't believe this is a fix, it's just a "hack" covering up the problem. 2-3% an hour is NOT even close to acceptable for s0 sleep, which leads me to believe the device is never entering s0 sleep. These devices should easily last 4-5 days in sleep with s0 sleep, much like a cell phone, Surface RT/2, iPad, Android Tablet with no activity.

I would not suggest anyone use this as a permanent fix, if you need to do this, you device is still broken and not working as advertised.

It works but there is side effect: battery drain when sleeping (USB hub is always powered on).

    I've noticed 2-3% / hour which is significant (3 * 24h = 72% / day!).

I've always had 2-3% an hour or even more battery drain when sleeping so I haven't noticed a change.
