Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Maybe something's wrong with the wakeup hardware on ALL of these machines?

This is what I think. I went 4 months with my SB and didn't have a single failure to wake, and then last week it started happening all the time. It was only then that I unchecked the USB hub box. This is why I wonder if exchanging them actually fixes the problem, or the new one is just waiting for the problem to reappear again. Looking through various forums, and from my own personal experience, the failure to wake bug has pretty much been a problem with every generation of the Surface, and even with non-Surface Win 8.1 and RT tablets. That's why I'm skeptical that after 4 generations of devices a new production batch of the same device fixes the problem. This problem predates both the hardware and software of todays SP4's and SB's.

I am one of the people who went to the Microsoft store and exchanged my lot 1550 device for a new lot 1604 device.

I have not had a single sleep issue with the new computer (it's been 2 weeks without any issues).

My box for allowing the computer to sleep the USB root hub is checked (since I never fiddled with this setting, I believe it was like that since day 1).

I just went through something weird - I tried to wake up the computer with the keyboard and it didn't wake up. Caps lock did not work, and win-p and cntl-alt-B didn't work either. I decided that finally the sleep problem caught up to me with the new computer and walked away to talk to my wife about something else. But when I got back, the computer was awake! It didn't reboot - it was as if it woke up from sleep!

Maybe something's wrong with the wakeup hardware on ALL of these machines?

I tried the USB driver sleep workaround, and so far it's a PERFECT FIX for me.  I haven't had the no-wake issue once since (although it's only been two days).  More interestingly, sleep power usage is fine:  A  little under 1% per hour.  A "sleepstudy" revealed that "USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller (\_SB.PCI0.XHC)" was active for 96% of the 7.5 hours of my latest sleep, but that still didn't seem to cost too much in terms of battery.

So I'm very happy with this workaround (so far).  It'll save me the enormous hassle of an exchange unit.

I exchanged for a new SP4 at the local Microsoft store 9 days ago.  So far no sleep issues!  Did not have to turn off USB root hub.  Seems to me this is a hardware issue...

I believe the ones that Microsoft sends through technical support are refurbished / remanufactured ones.  I was told I can only get new ones from the store.  I was sent a refurb that had the same problem and the Microsoft technician directed me to the store for a new one.
