Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I am going to try this. Hope it will help.

I've even done a complete reset of my Surface Pro 4 and this is probably going to be the last thing I try. If this doesn't work then I am back to my Mac.

Thank you for sharing I will post back my results.

Damn, I thought I am the only one who has this problem. Seems like a lot of people still having this problem.

Mine has the exact problem. If I walked a way for 20, 30 minutes, the Surface go to sleep ( or maybe just screen off), I could not wake it up. If I hit the keyboard, the key will light up, but the screen is still dark, same thing with pressing the power button. Just unacceptable.

Do not accept a replacement device. If you just recently got this device, return it to best buy, and get a new one. I just returned my device that I got on October 26th from Best Buy and started exhibiting this very issue after the February 17th update. I finally went to the Microsoft Store and they gave me a brand new unit that DOES NOT exhibit this behavior. It was definitely hardware, as I had wiped the previous devices completely and reinstalled. I didn't even need my original receipt from Best Buy. I had the original box, pen, and charger and they gave me a new unit. I kept my original Type Cover, which has been fantastic and held up great. My original device was in Mint Condition and was lot 1541, the new device is lot 1613. Good luck to you, but don't accept the broken hardware device, even if the USB fix works.

I just purchased a Surface Pro 4 i7 16gb 256gb, all windows updates performed as of 5/9/16. All drivers up-to-date. Power settings set to "default". I experience the issue where the surface pro 4 will not wake from sleep after walking away for 10 minutes and coming back. I move the mouse cursor, keyboard will illuminate but the display is still black. I will press power button, nothing happens. I have to hard-reset it by holding power button for 30 seconds. I tried contacting chat support (what a joke, after 30 minutes she was asking me if my narrator worked??). I tried contacting phone support, ended up with a manager after an hour of checking my system for software updates only or offering to send me a refurbished unit. They had no clue what is going on or what to do.

I just disabled the usb root hub power option, so we will see if that helps for now.. but this is very frustrating for someone who just purchased the device several days ago. For $2,000 for everything, I am seriously considering using my excellent bestbuy rewards zone return policy and having them stick this thing back up MS' rectum. I love the device, but I hate Microsoft with a passion, especially after this.

FIX THE DAMN THING, IT HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR EVERYONE SINCE IT CAME OUT!!

Can anyone confirm the replacement units GIVEN OUT IN THE MICROSOFT PHYSICAL STORE are NOT experiencing this issue? If I knew for sure I could get a replacement that would not have this issue, I would exchange it... but I am not willing to lose an expensive glass screen protector and everything I've put into this device so far if it will not.
