Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I have an appointment today I just scheduled with the Microsoft store to look at the device. I will let you know how I make out there.

What lot # should I be looking for???? I have 1609 currently and it is definitely still experiencing the issue.

Do not accept a replacement device. If you just recently got this device, return it to best buy, and get a new one. I just returned my device that I got on October 26th from Best Buy and started exhibiting this very issue after the February 17th update. I finally went to the Microsoft Store and they gave me a brand new unit that DOES NOT exhibit this behavior. It was definitely hardware, as I had wiped the previous devices completely and reinstalled. I didn't even need my original receipt from Best Buy. I had the original box, pen, and charger and they gave me a new unit. I kept my original Type Cover, which has been fantastic and held up great. My original device was in Mint Condition and was lot 1541, the new device is lot 1613. Good luck to you, but don't accept the broken hardware device, even if the USB fix works.

The above was my experience as well. Many weeks into new device and it's working as expected and has been great. Except one situation when docked and in sleep, the device got very hot and the fans were running high all night. I don't dock to often but it seems there may be standby issues while docking.

On another note, shocking news: Customer Satisfaction with Tablet Devices.

MS #2?!?! They are also making nice profits off the Surface devices. This means they are selling a lot and tells me we must be a relativelysmall audience with these problems. Kind of baffling though.

As some others have said, KEEP going back until you get a working device or let the thing go. Newcomers, you're not going to find a silver bullet here.

To the other person who tried the Twitter route, I tried this hundreds of posts ago and it didn't take very well. Must not be a lot of Twitter users on here, but I agree it would be more productive than continued posts in this forum.

I truly do not want to replace or exchange my surface pro 4 and lose out on my glass screen protector, or have to completely reinstall and configure every application I've already installed.

I hope they come up with a software fix/ patch for this

    For what it's worth, mine is a surface pro 4, i7, 16gb 256gb,  lot # 1609

I'm going to try installing todays updates and disabling the "work around". I'll post afterwards.

Looks like a whole bunch of updates were released yesterday. I'm going to disable the UBS workaround (or enable normal USB sleep if you will) and see if I get the FTW bug again or if it was fixed. The USB workaround has been working for a couple weeks so far though, hopefully this patch fixes it for real though.
