Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I think this solves the problem...

While reading some posts here and observing my laptop last night,,,

I was thinking that every time the PC goes to sleep the display is also turn off but un able to turn on...

So I went to the settings and change the SCREEN settings of "On Battery Power, Turn Off After" to NEVER

    and

"When Plugged In, Turn Off After" to NEVER

I'm not sure if it will drain the battery because when I push the button to sleep the screen shuts off also, and then when I wake it up the screen turns back on...

haven't left my PC for long sleep yet,,,

Please click helpful if this thing works...

    Good luck to us guys

Thanks for the tip. I made the same settings but where do you set hibernate to 45 minutes ? I see screen and sleep settings only and I set those as you mentioned.

There may be an easier way, but this is one.

Go to Start (windows icon in left bottom corner)>Settings>System>Power&sleep on left>Additional power settings>Change plan settings>Change Advanced settings

There a box pops up and you can micro adjust all sorts of power settings.  HIBERNATE comes up if you check the + box for Sleep.  I think this box rules, as it doesn't always seem to correlate with the settings shown on other pages.

I agree that our "fixes" are annoying and should not be required.  That said, for those of us keeping it, it is useful to share observations.  And there is the naive hope that Microsoft actually sees some of this.

In tablet mode, I set display off at 5 minutes, and sleep at 30.  If I want to put it to sleep sooner, I do it via the start button>power in lower left, but I also set hibernate at 45 minutes.  I have not yet experienced any problems this way.  It seems (is this really true?) that if sleep is not on for a prolonged time, some even said up to an hour, that it will wake up.  My power setting means sleep no longer than 30 minutes.  Seems to be working.

I do it similarly plugged, but maybe a longer time for display, but still hibernate by 45 mins.  Sometimes I use Win-L to lock the computer if I leave, and I assume it just cuts display off, then goes to sleep per my settings, including the hibernate at 45 mins.
