Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Will it help if I Reset my PC? Are there others who were able to fix it with resetting? Its so unreliable for work,,,, I was so excited to have this device, I had to do a huge risk just to have this device imported here,,, I live here in the Philippines there is no customer support here for return or exchange... 😩

    What other options is there to work around the issue of the surface pro 4 not turning on? I have had to do a hard boot by holding the power and volume button. From my understanding the fix is not scheduled to be released until sometime next month.

    My Surface Pro 4 (I5) is doing ok with hibernate.  But I don't use it much as a tablet.  When I do, I put it in sleep from the menu, but usually wake it within a small amount of time. I have power settings such that before an hour, it goes into hibernate, and I think that prevents the hassles.  But it is not acceptable to have to worry about this.  Also no answer on how often that fan should be coming on. 

    Everyone talks about returning it. I am holding off, and may have missed my deadline.  And that is what class action suits are all about.  I think the volume of complaints are high, and if they persist, and we can't return the units, things may happen.  I'm sure some attorneys have bought these machines.  But that should not have to happen.

    Does Microsoft really care?  BTW, I bought a Band 2 at the same time.  I like it.  I am trying to LIKE Microsoft. They are not making it easy.

    And I completely agree with you. If you have the luxury of being able to return and replace the computer, do it. Only that will make the manufacturer actually feel your pain.

    However, I feel that until the time this is (hopefully) fixed, I would much rather just restart the system gracefully, rather than do a hard power off every time. In case I keep it, I know that it has been treated better. And it's really just two steps: Win+D and Alt+F4, Enter ;)

    It's actually not that simple.  What if the end user has a doc and a spreadsheet open and there are prompts for the user to save, yes, no or cancel.  There are several other possibilities of such prompts as well.  While the screen is black, that's not going to be so simple as two steps.  Let's not make this sound simple.  It's about as bad as a problem gets.  It's what I'd call a P1 case which is critical down, when it happens.  MS needs to respond this this community and tell us what they have planned instead of leaving us in the dark.  Pun intended.
