Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Let me add my voice to the 30+pages of people dealing with this issue.

I use mine in court and have had it fail to wake up just when the judge is calling our case for a hearing. That was not good. The same day It totally locked up, froze entirely, when playing an important video for a client using the installed Microsoft Windows Media Player. This occurred twice in a row during the meeting with the client.

I previously was in contact with MS Support and they did not fix the wake up issues. Last week they wrote the email below:

    **"**Hi Jon,

I hope that you are doing well today. This is to confirm if you're still experiencing the same issue with your device. I want to make sure that the issue is resolved prior to closing the case. Your satisfaction with us is very important to me. Please reply to this email so that you can keep me posted."

I replied describing the problems that still exist. It's been over a week and I haven't heard back from them. So I am making do with hibernate, (but be sure NOT to press the power button to turn it on when the keyboard is folded back), and I will try my luck with the VLC media player. This is my second SP4. I returned the first one due to the same glitchy performance.

Now I travel with my ancient Lenovo X201 tablet PC, running Windows 7, if I need to be sure that my technology will work. The X201 reliably does "instant on" and plays video using WMP with no issues.

For me, the rollout of the Surface Pro 4 is a black eye for Microsoft. My guess is that they have determined that not a high enough number of SP4 computers are having this problem, so it's not a priority. Perhaps they don't want to publicly acknowledge the issues because it's the holiday season and they're pushing to sell as many as possible, intending to deal with the problems after the first of the year.

Whatever. All I know is that my SP4, I7 computer is not ready to do business.

I should have known. People did warn me to wait six months before buying the SP4 so that Microsoft could iron out the issues, but I refused to believe they would release a computer with huge issues and I could tolerate minor problems.

So, Microsoft, if you are listening, please fix these issues or at least let us know that you have a plan.

Thanks for the reply Opalchip. Unfortunately it wouldn't power down and the unit's temperature kept rising. After speaking to tech support it needed to be sent back.

Can someone from Microsoft or @SurfaceSupport please respond on this thread telling us what exactly you are doing to fix this?

You specifically asked me to add my experience here but we have heard nothing useful from you about this issue.

We are paying over the odds for these devices which are wonderful except for this long standing deal breaking problem. The cost of the considerable time being spent by your customers on this is starting to have an negative impact on your good will.

Please let us know you are a) listening and b) working on a fix as a priority.

    Thanks

That is very disappointing as I just exchanged for the same model hoping it might be more likely to work than i5. :(

    Does

a couple of presses of Windows key + P not wake up the display? I had some some success with this, even with external monitors connected, whuch adds more states.
