Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

     Turned on my Surface just now and it won't boot up or stop flashing the "Surface" logo. I just tried the 2 button shut down and that isn't working. Any advice?

    I was having a lot of problems early on, and have done a number of full resets, etc.  My machine runs completely fine now.  Here a couple of easy things you can try - which likely won't work - but easy enough. If they don't see option 4. below:

    1. Try detaching the keyboard and starting the Surface without it.
    2. Try turning on with the Volume DOWN button held down (the opposite of the 2 button shutdown). That may lead you to a recovery console which you can try using - or preferably restart from with no changes.
    3. Before going to Option 4., wait and see if anyone else here has a good idea :)

    One of those might jigger something enough to get the Surface back on track.

    1. The last resort is to download/create a USB Recovery Drive on another machine and then use it to boot and reset the Surface. I did this a few times, and it works well. You WILL lose all your installed software and have to reinstall it if you need to do it - but there may be no choice. See full instructions explained here:

    I am running the i7 (256GBHDD, 16GBRam) Surface Pro 4 version, and have all the latest software and firmware updates installed (as of December 20th, 2015). I STILL have the issue where it will NOT wake up from sleep mode!

    Same issue as others here: After being asleep I push the power button, the keyboard lights up, the infra-red camera lights up as if it is ready to recognize me face, then nothing. Blank screen. Have to do the 2-button hard reset to reboot the whole thing.

    It's extremely frustrating... especially to be told: "The best solution is to to this cumbersome, multiple-step procedure which takes a few minutes to complete, and you're golden!" It's also embarrassing.

    I am currently trying to convince my workplace to purchase Surface Pro 4 devices for all employees (which will be a LOT) and let's just say when I sit in front of the head-honcho to show him how it works, and I cannot get it to boot up, you've likely lost the deal.

    Let's see about a solution that works, yes?

    Mine got much worse after the Dec 17th Updates.  When attempting to wake, the keyboard would light up and I'de have a lot of trouble getting the screen to come on. Initially this would happen rarely but after the update, it was every single time I would pick the device up.  My wifi was always 'turned off' when it woke as well, and the update did not fix that. The Dec 17th updates also introduced awful screen flickering in one section of the screen.   I've since returned my surface and type cover for a full refund.  Good luck guys, I give up.
