Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    I agree. When in tablet mode you want the power button to just sleep to avoid unexpected screen events.

    However my experience is the problem only occurs when shutting the cover so I changed that to hybernate. I feel this is a kludge as sleep should automatically hibernate after a set time - I'm not sure if this works on win10 though. With cover on I want cover close to sleep and power button to hybernate.

    In other forums, I've learned that Microsoft "apologizes" for this bug, and has recommended using Hibernate, not Sleep, in the interim.  Hibernate is a deeper sleep but seems to work better.  My problem is I like to turn off the display manually, used to just push power button set to Sleep.  So now, I hesitate to use hibernate to just turn off the display. 

    I also wonder...if Microsoft is truly sorry, why not offer something? Maybe give all of us suffering with this at least an extra power cord?  They have tons of cash, but seem to be acting like the airlines, with no offer of a free drink when flight is markedly delayed.  Do these companies know so little about customer satisfaction?

    I have bought it since last week but I have the EXACT same problem for many times already.

    Microsoft needs to fix it ASAP.

    It is NOT ACCEPTABLE for consumers to accept these kind of errors

    How can a computer needs to reboot every time I got this error!?

    Even a cheap notebook computer will not have this issue

    Certainly MS need to quickly fix this problem

    Agreed.  It's not acceptable.  I just bought my surface pro 4 2 days ago and have had this issue, horrible 5GHZ wifi performance, and issues with the mail app not properly updating its badge number when I remove e-mails which for a $1500 device used mostly for consumption and occasional business productivity (where I'd be using Outlook) is absolutely unacceptable.

    Returning the device today.
