Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    Not sure if I should be glad or sad to see this many people with this problem, since I mainly use the computer docked at home or at the office I have changed the setting to not enter sleep at all while docked, haven't seen the problem as much but this is clearly not an acceptable long term solution.

    In fact an even simpler process causes problems.

    * Remove power and shut cover for 4 secs

    * open cover

    I get one of several responses

    * Keyboard and screen light up

    * Keyboard does not light up but key wakes it and screep up

    * keyboard flashes on and off and then get beep and dis[play driver error an recovered toast

    * keyboard flashes on and off and surface requires long pwer down to reset

    There's obviously something wrong - perhaps a race condition?

    So this is a different 'failure' mode but might be related. At least I can reproduce it 50% of the time.

    * Keyboard connected and show desktop.

    * shut cover and count 2 seconds

    * press power button and count 2 secs

    * release power and count 2 secs

    * open cover

    Sometimes the display and keyboard backlight come up. Other times only the keyboard back light come one and neither keyboard or touch screen make screen appear. Unit is functioning as holding shift key gives sticky keys high pitched squeak. This mode can be exited by pressing power button twice. Very occasionally I get a strange double beep while holding power button down for 2 secs and then I get in a mode where only a long reset will recover.

    Test 4.  Keyboard attached (folded behind the tablet).  Power on from Hibernate Result is UNACCEPTABLE
