Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I am using Surface Pro 4 i7 with the latest updated Win10 1607. I also encounter the Sleep to Death(SoD) Problem.

    This forum is so long.

I am attempting to fix this SoD after reading some articles. See if it works. Please notice that I am still testing this solution upon writing this forum.

Go to Control Panel > Device Manager >

Turn off the following 2 power saving mode

    1. Univeral Serial Bus Controllers > USB Root Hub > click on it , go to Power Management, disable the SAVE power option.
    2. System Device > Intel Management engine interface > click on it, go to Power Management, diable the SAVE POWER option.

I will test for several days, see if this works. Feedbacks are welcome to point out this will helps or not. : )

so far, so good on my SP4-m3 running AU 1607...

    Thx

I concur, battery life has been much worse since the update. around 4-5 hours max, with doing very little - I've even resorted to using MS edge or Opera browser. That's with power saving on and brightness turned down. This needs fixing.

While the sleep problem is much, much, better, it's still not completely fixed.  I agree with a couple of earlier posters that battery life has taken a pretty big hit, though- I only got around 4-5 hours yesterday.  My SP3 got 8-9 hours reliably, and the SP4 is SUPPOSED to have better battery life than the SP3.

    Two other things:

    1. IMPORTANT: Microsoft has changed some code on the Support Forums so that it is NO LONGER ACCESSIBLE FROM FIREFOX (redirect loop). I had to paste this URL into Edge to be able to post this.  If ANYONE at Microsoft is reading this, please contact the folks that run your support forum and have them look into this.  (It's been going on for a couple of weeks, not, I figured they would have realized and fixed it, but no dice...)  Here's the error you get trying to get to a forum link in Firefox (nothing has changed in my Firefox setup in ages...):

    The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.

Pretty sure someone at MS should be capable of downloading a copy of Firefox and finding the boneheaded code on your site that's responsible.  I'll think about using Edge as my browser when it doesn't suck, which is a long way off, yet...

    1. On my SP4, "Doze to Hibernate" appears to put me in the Sleep of Death, at least sometimes.  (Actually, it's slightly different - it wakes up just fine, but with no idea that it was supposed to be sleeping, so it just does a cold boot as if it was turned off, which it apparently did on its own when the battery ran down enough..)  This is almost as annoying as Sleep O'Death, and like it, requires that I make sure I've closed anything I'm working on before putting the computer to sleep, since it might decide to hibernate and eat my work for unknown reasons.

Guiding Principle to Sleep and Power Management which should NEVER be violated under ANY circumstances, if AT ALL POSSIBLE:  Sleep and Power Management should NEVER, EVER, be the reason for a customer losing their work on the computer!  Your job and responsibility is to protect our work, not to casually toss it out (or forget you were supposed to be protecting it) when your code gets confused...

(Someone at MS please stick this on the refrigerator door and bathroom doors of whatever group is responsible for making this unholy pile of code work. (I sympathize with them, but the sleep issues are NOT fixed yet, they've just papered over the worst of the problems...))

I have tested for overnight for Surface Pro sleeping 9 hours , it can wake up after that. Battery drops from 100% to 91%. Seems this setting fix the problem. : )
