Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

Hi,

I bought the new Surface Pro 4 i5 128GB and have been experiencing a very annoying bug. So any help would be really appreciated.

The bug occurred twice while charging, but remain after I stop charging.

After leaving my device unattended for some time it will -- as it should -- go into stand-by mode. But when I want to unlock it again while charging, the screen will briefly turn on show my login screen before quickly turning off again.

Thenceforth, my Surface is on, but the screen is not active. I have tried to turn it off, but after booting up, the same will happen all over again.

It seems to be stuck in a buggy configuration where it can't get out off.

Last time I was able to leave this cycle by quickly unlocking it in the seconds the screen is active. Since the password field was filled with dots, I know my Surface was on despite lack of visuals.

But that tactic doesn't seem to work when there is no lock screen. Also, from the moment the screen turns off after reactivating the device, it will stay off. So once I lose visuals, I won't regain them until I reboot it that often that I get the special Windows Recovery screen.

But triggering that takes a lot of on-and-off switching.

The Surface boot screen has no problem showing, just as the Bios (EFSX-someting) menu and the recovery menu. Then there is no problem with the screen whatsoever, making me believe it is probably a software issue rather than a hardware issue.

Writing this, I realized that I probably have to try to turn on my device and wait for it to lock so I can quickly unlock it to end this cycle. Assuming I fix it the same way like last time. Will try this when I get home.

However, you understand that this is a very annoying issue. Especially for a new and expensive device. Did anyone have similar issues? How can I fix this.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with Surface Pro 4.

Please ensure Surface is fully up to date.

When did this start happening?

Is your result better starting Surface from shut down instead of waking from sleep?

Are you getting any error messages or codes?

Does this experience vary based on the apps that remain open during sleep, or the accessories attached?

I'm in the same boat... I really love the Surface idea... I have one Surface Pro 3 at work and it's a great piece... but the Surface Pro 4 feels like ...

1. The fan going on all the time (it's loud) while surfing the web
2. Graphic driver crashes all the time (Sometimes Lightroom is not showing picture but only colored squares)
3. Sleepmode issues

I bought it for the possibility of Windows Hello... but I'm really struggling if I should send it back...

I hope Microsoft will show some mercy and comments those issues

How's your battery life, if you don't mind me asking. I have 2 SP4 at home, and both drain like no other during sleep. Minimum 4% every hour. So every time I sleep and go somewhere, I lose 8%, maybe 9 or 10% when it has to wake up and hibernate. 

I don't want to take this topic too far off topic since we want the sleep problem resolved but it does drain too much for my liking in sleep mode but perhaps less than the SP3 did. SP3 was rock solid on Windows 8. Windows 10 began the battery drain and high fan usage. Thank goodness the SP4's fan doesn't kick in as much.
