Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

This works for me, BUT... it happens CONSTANTLY. Basically if I shut it off, I might as well power it down every single time because I have to do this two-button restart 50% of the time. A royal time-consuming productivity buster. Either I have a lemon or this machine is seriously flawed. All updates installed, etc. Surface Pro 4, i7 512GB. What a great machine save this very serious problem.

I have a surface pro 4 i7 512gb. Have had it for a couple months. I am constantly having wake-up problems. Tried all kinds of things on the zillion threads I've read including turning of Windows Hello. Nothing helps. It will go for a couple days fine, then it starts again. Very problematic. Seems to always happen when I need it right away. Basically when I shut it, or put it to sleep with power button, it very often won't turn back on unless I do the 2-button (volume, power) 30-second hold shut-down procedure then turn back on. It always comes back on in that case. Of course I have lost all my open screens, etc. and it's a slow process. I am starting to think I have a lemmon. All updates are installed.

If there is a real fix, I do not know about it.

Incidentally, I also have a surface book i7 and I do not have this problem.

..after the january firmware update, I wanted manually update the Intel drivers, but the update told me that I have already installed the newest driver.

I hope MS will solve this problem soon, I am very unrelaxed about this

    Greetings,

    Andreas

If you are getting this message, you aren't doing the steps precisely as needed.  This was posted previously, but it's a big thread, and is easy to miss.  These are the steps:

    In Device Manager, Display Adapters:

    • Right-click Intel HD Graphics
    • Click Properties
    • Click Driver tab
    • Click Update driver
    • Click Browse my computer for driver software
    • Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    • Click Have disk
    • Click Browse
    • Browse to where you unzipped the driver, to the Graphics subfolder.  You should see a file called igdlh64 there.  Select it.
    • Click Open
    • Click OK
    • You should see Intel HD Graphics 520 (or whatever version you have) in the list.
    • Click Next - it will install.

When done, go back and check driver properties, you should see v20.19.15.4352.

Note: be sure to download the .zip instead of the .exe. Once downloaded and unzipped, these instructions can be found in the Installation_Readme.txt file in the driver directory under the heading "Microsoft Windows* 'Have Disk' Installation"
