Surface pen no longer able to highlight the article

Barb, I see your point but it doesn't make any difference how it works on other devices. It's irrelevant because our other computers don't support a digital pen. The point is it doesn't work like it used to do on my devices and I don't have another £2,000+ to replace them. 

It's hugely frustrating. I thought they worked perfectly before so I don't understand the point of the change.

I'm hoping a lot of other people have the same view of the change so that we can collectively ask Microsoft to put it back to how it was before if there's no fix. For me it's completely ruined the experience of using the Pen to select text. It wouldn't be so bad if tapping the text to select it actually worked. Many times you can tap away at the text or try to move the selection handles and nothing happens.

As far as I'm aware there are no Microsoft stores in the UK. 

However, you are completely missing the point. This has nothing to do with the drivers or using it on different products. We have two Surface Pro 4's and two Pens. Both work exactly the same way of course. 

The point is that the behaviour changed after the Fall Creators Update. This was obviously a deliberate design change by the Microsoft team, this is not a problem with drivers or different devices. 

My best guess is that the change was made because the new Surface Pro doesn't include the Pen as standard, so it was done to make the device easier to use with touch (not Pen) - I say this because notably, when using the Mail app to select text you get two "handles" either end of the text you have selected IF you use your finger, but if you try to use the Pen that doesn't happen - the background turns grey to indicate the text has been selected but using Ctrl+C won't copy it. It did before the Fall update. 

The behaviour is the same on both Surface Pro 4's that we have, and using either Pen. 

As I said, what I am trying to find out is, is there a way around it, a setting somewhere, to get it to behave like it used to because for me the way it works now (or rather doesn't work) is a real pain and in terms of productivity it has made things far more difficult for me than they used to be. 

I have a disability with back problems that limits my movement, so using the Pen rather than just using touch with my fingers makes a huge different to me.

Have you been reading the growing number of posts on this where the behavior was

changed by the Fall Creators Update? Do you personally have access to Surface

devices running the original Creators Update and the Fall Creators Update so

that you personally can see the differences in behavior of the pen?

Erwin Nga, did you look at the Feedback Hub before you posted that comment?  This issue has been documented in the pre-release Insiders Preview version since it first appeared in the beta builds in July. There are dozens of bug reports about how the new pen behavior breaks so much other functionality. Please do a search in the Feedback Hub and you'll see.
