Surface pen no longer able to highlight the article

I use the surface pen to do personal reading as well as highlighting on the article. However, recently I suddenly cannot do the highlighting anymore. Each time I tried to highlight, the pen dragged the screen to the next page. Is this the problem with the pen or the application software?

Hi Swee,

I think what you are seeing are some Pen interaction improvements that were made in the Fall Creators update.

**Scrolling with pen.**In the effort to create a more intuitive pen interaction on Windows, we are emphasizing natural and direct manipulation of content with pen. You don’t have to “hunt and peck” for scrollbars or frequently switch between pen and touch when navigating; now you can scroll content directly and fluently as you would with your finger.

**Selection with pen.**We also revised selection with pen by giving it more control over the selection process. Not only are we showing selection grippers whenever text is selected via pen, but also are allowing for a consistent and fast selection of content – text, objects, or ink—by dragging the pen while the barrel button is pressed.

For example, if you are in Edge or a Store app you can now select text by quickly double tapping a word and then dragging the selection grippers to adjust the words highlighted OR you can press and hold the pen's barrel button while you highlight the desired text.

why do updates make things worst? The pen was just fine now i have to press a button to highlight text how is that intuitive. what you have created is a mouse shaped like a pen. so lets call it what it is a downgrade so that your pen is like a mouse. Why not bring windows 95 back while your at it.

In using the JW Library app, the only way to highlight now is to do it one word at a time with the surface pen? I dont think thats an improvement. Using a touch screen tablet with a scrolling bar and maybe a mouse or even the trackpad has to be enough options for scrolling. I thought it was nice to have the pen highlight automatically in reading apps. Is there any way to change this?

Microsoft will continue to look into the problem to provide users a resolution. As previously suggested by MVP Barb Bowman, please use the Feedback Hub app to raise this concern and get further assistance. Follow these steps:
1. Download the Feedback Hub app from Windows Store in case you don't have it.
2. Launch the Feedback Hub app from the Start menu.
3. Navigate to Feedback on the left menu, then click on the + Add new feedback.
4. Select the Problem, and share any details you think are relevant. Choose the appropriate category and subcategory. If possible, reproduce the problem by clicking Begin monitoring near the end of the form. Then select Stop monitoring when you are done.
5. Once you have completed the form and monitoring, click Submit.
6. Click Continue using Feedback Hub.
7. Click My feedback at the top and look for the item you submitted (it may take a minute to appear).
8. Open the item you submitted, then click Share.
9. Click Copy link then paste the link to your Community post in your response for other members to find this post.
