My SB (i5, 256gb, 8gb, GeforceGPU) keeps crashing/freezing during sleep which causes it to shut down. According to the windows reliability monitor it has been happening every day multiple time.
I though I was going crazy because I clearly remember not turning it off before putting it to sleep. I recently had my original SB replaced with a new one which fixed most of the issues from blue screens to flickering that would not go away. But this new one still has the Hello Camera issue where it wont turn on during startup and this new problem that has popped up.
Is this caused by a hardware defect? I really don't want to drive 23km to the other side of my city to get another replacement at a Microsoft store if the issues aren't resolved. Here's an image on the report. As you can see, there are 17 critical events today not to mention all the other days as well. Thanks.
If anyone has a solution that isn't a complete factory reset or system reinstall (I've tried them before) that would be great.

Thanks for your post. Given your experience it is unlikely that plugged in or not has any effect with the Sleep Crash issue. I haven't done that much testing of Sleep with the SB unplugged (on battery) for extended periods like I have with the SB plugged in, so it is likely I just haven't encountered it yet. I was struggling to understand the difference between Sleep with the SB plugged in or on battery. It appears there isn't any.
This is a well known and often observed issue. You will see numerous posts on this forum for the "Sleep / Crash" issue. It generally takes a few hours in Sleep before the SB crashes. I have yet to find a solution and have tried all the "fixes" offered on this and other forums (reimage the SB, DISM repair, disable Fast Start, disable connected standby, etc.). In my case the Event Viewer logs the following error:
"Event ID 41, Kernel-Power, The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
I have experienced sleep crashes both plugged in and unplugged, tho most often when plugged in for me. It is not the hand off to hibernation that causes it, as my machine is set to never hibernate when plugged in, so there's no reason it should be even trying to enter that state when I experience the most sleep crashes.
I wouldn't be surprised if the cause is legacy applications, but I do have to say, I leave NOTHING running on my SB when I put it to sleep other than what always runs in the background. I do not use or have iTunes on my machine.
My sleep crashes also seem somewhat random -- that is, I don't get them with any consistency, and I've yet to notice a distinct pattern (particular applications that were used prior to the sleep session that caused the crash, particular errors in the logs prior to the crash, etc). It can be days without a crash and then one day, I'll have it happen every time it sleeps. It's just so frustratingly random.
I built a small form factor desktop a few months ago after I realized I just couldn't rely on my SB for all my computing needs (too unstable) -- with a skylake chip. Amusingly: no sleep, no hibernate... and no issues.
Back to all-hibernate for my SB for now ...
Are you sure the problem will not happened while hibernating? do you use hibernation only when the SB will not be used for long periods of time or anytime? if is it anytime, that's pretty bad, because during the day I need the capability to quickly turn on the device, check for an email and then back to sleep again.
It's really some kind of a joke that having the "latest Skylake" technology and the latest and "best Windows OS" we have to deal with all these basic issues.
I get the same error as you, I was thinking on going through the painful process of reimage, DISM, etc., but I think now after all the feedback, I will just return it. I think the SB still requires a lot of tuning at the SW and probably HW level, to make it a reliable and stable platform. It's a great device and I like it a lot, but to me it's green, not ready for prime time, I cannot afford all the number of unexpected issues on my main working device, I need something more reliable, I might have to accept a trade off in functionality and capabilities (iPad Pro) for stability and predictability.
