My SB (i5, 256gb, 8gb, GeforceGPU) keeps crashing/freezing during sleep which causes it to shut down. According to the windows reliability monitor it has been happening every day multiple time.
I though I was going crazy because I clearly remember not turning it off before putting it to sleep. I recently had my original SB replaced with a new one which fixed most of the issues from blue screens to flickering that would not go away. But this new one still has the Hello Camera issue where it wont turn on during startup and this new problem that has popped up.
Is this caused by a hardware defect? I really don't want to drive 23km to the other side of my city to get another replacement at a Microsoft store if the issues aren't resolved. Here's an image on the report. As you can see, there are 17 critical events today not to mention all the other days as well. Thanks.
If anyone has a solution that isn't a complete factory reset or system reinstall (I've tried them before) that would be great.

Seeing the same as others here.
Surface Book (i7/512GB) from Lot 1605. Goes to sleep (short-term) fine, both when on batteries and when plugged in. Goes to sleep (long-term) fine when on battery. Crashes 100% of the time when going to sleep (long-term) when connected to the mains.
Urgh.
My SB exhibits the exact same symptoms.
So I just spent an entire weekend without having the sleep crash problem -- even this morning, my SB was slightly warm when I unplugged it (which probably means it was doing more than it should have overnight, but it also means that it successfully remained in sleep the whole time). That's a first in a long while.
I still have not run DISM or SFC since the most recent set of firmware updates. I'm trying to ascertain if this is really necessary to maintain stability between Windows and firmware updates. So far, I have not seen any BSODs nor anything other than the sleep crashes, really. The updated Intel display driver is playing much nicer with Firefox and hardware acceleration than before (I got some pretty awful artifacting all over the place in FF just on basic web pages).
I just wanted to come back to this thread and clarify -- my sleep crashes mostly occur overnight when the SB is "sleeping" when I plug it in to charge for the night. Most times, by morning, my SB is completely powered off when I go to wake it by opening the lid. It is also set to NOT enter hibernation while plugged in, which is why it should not be attempting to enter hibernation at all overnight as long as it is not already in hibernation when I plug it in. However, I should note that I have seen my SB wake itself from hibernation in the middle of the night (seen in windows logs) so that I found it in a warm/hot sleep state in the morning when it should have been hibernating (it was hibernating when I plugged it in).
This issue is not consistent. Sometimes it is fine (like the entire past weekend) and other days, it will unexpectedly power down at any time during the day while sleeping on battery (I routinely wake and put my SB to sleep several times throughout a normal day). For instance, I will close the lid on my SB around 7am and not wake it again until noon. It should be in hibernation on battery at this point, but there are times where it is completely powered off and goes through a complete boot sequence rather than simply resuming from hibernation.
Got a brand new surface book on April 20 and have been experiencing the same issue. When the computer resumes from Sleep, all the previously open programs are closed. In fact, when I open Google Chrome again, it says the browser crashed.
I also have about 1gb of crash dump reports.
My SB crashes when in Sleep and plugged in. It happens consistently, every night when in Sleep for more than a few hours. I see the problem less often on battery but it will crash with or without the power adapter plugged in. So sort of the opposite of what you are experiencing.
