SurfaceBook Crashes/Shutdowns During Sleep

My SB (i5, 256gb, 8gb, GeforceGPU) keeps crashing/freezing during sleep which causes it to shut down. According to the windows reliability monitor it has been happening every day multiple time.

I though I was going crazy because I clearly remember not turning it off before putting it to sleep. I recently had my original SB replaced with a new one which fixed most of the issues from blue screens to flickering that would not go away. But this new one still has the Hello Camera issue where it wont turn on during startup and this new problem that has popped up.

Is this caused by a hardware defect? I really don't want to drive 23km to the other side of my city to get another replacement at a Microsoft store if the issues aren't resolved. Here's an image on the report. As you can see, there are 17 critical events today not to mention all the other days as well. Thanks.

If anyone has a solution that isn't a complete factory reset or system reinstall (I've tried them before) that would be great.

    This is really getting ridiculous, I would say my SB crashes about 50% - 60% of the time now when it goes into sleep mode on battery and maybe 20% of the time when it sleeps on power.  When ever anyone asked me if I would recommend this laptop I say no, never buy one.  I have at least 4 people that were going to buy one that did not because of the issues we are all experiencing. It has truly been the worst laptop I have ever owned. 

    Thanks Microsoft for building such a crappy product that makes everyone I talked to want to stick with a Mac.

    Confirming that my SB crashed overnight while in Sleep, after successfully installing the May 9 updates. Same Event error as before: Unexpected Shutdown. Kernel-Power error.

    I was hopeful that the latest update addressed the issue but as we now know it did not.

    I have had some recent email dialogue with a Microsoft support representative, providing her with my Sleep-Crash (Sleep of Death) information, copies of my Event log and pointed her to a few of the (many) threads here on the Sleep issue. Except for a polite thank you for the information there has been no further follow up or response in about a week. MS knows about this issue, that's for certain. In my opinion it is either a difficult problem for MS to solve in firmware or is an unsolvable hardware issue that will persist.

    I installed the May 9 Updates last night, and unfortunately, the system continues to crash during sleep. I left it to sleep at night, and when I woke up and opened the lid, the system had shut down. I also checked reliability monitor, and I confirmed that the shutdown was unexpected. I wonder if this sleep-crash issue will ever be fixed.

    Can anyone confirm if the new May 9 driver updates have made any difference on this issue?

    Hi,

    I'm pretty sure the article is not referring applications per se. That could be just the way it was written. I believe they actually mean parts of the core OS or shared libraries that don't play well with the new sleep scheme used on Surface Book.
