To recap, because this is a long thread:
You close the lid on your SB at night so that it goes to sleep, and when you open it in the morning the machine reboots from scratch, as if from power-off. It has crashed overnight and lost all your open windows, but there is no crash dump and nothing in the event log to explain the cause, just a message on start-up that says "The previous system shutdown at <time> was unexpected". It's as if all power was terminated abruptly so that the system had no time to react.
Presumably, you don't have this problem or you'd recognize it?
