SurfaceBook Crashes/Shutdowns During Sleep

My SB (i5, 256gb, 8gb, GeforceGPU) keeps crashing/freezing during sleep which causes it to shut down. According to the windows reliability monitor it has been happening every day multiple time.

I though I was going crazy because I clearly remember not turning it off before putting it to sleep. I recently had my original SB replaced with a new one which fixed most of the issues from blue screens to flickering that would not go away. But this new one still has the Hello Camera issue where it wont turn on during startup and this new problem that has popped up.

Is this caused by a hardware defect? I really don't want to drive 23km to the other side of my city to get another replacement at a Microsoft store if the issues aren't resolved. Here's an image on the report. As you can see, there are 17 critical events today not to mention all the other days as well. Thanks.

If anyone has a solution that isn't a complete factory reset or system reinstall (I've tried them before) that would be great.

I too would love to hear a response from MS.

I have new SB 1Tb model, less than 2 months old.  I've only installed a few pieces of software, mainly Office 365, and no new hardware or drivers.  I've not used the computer much.

I've done all the standard automatic updates.  I have encrypted my "hard drive" with Bit Locker.

When I put the computer to sleep by closing the lid, and leave it overnight, about half the time it crashes when I try to wake it up, and I have to reboot with the power button.  My open apps - usually just a browser or Word - are closed.

I've disabled hibernation - the  computer sleeps, but the hibernation settings, both on power and on battery , are set to never.

I've spend a lot of time with MS email support, which seems to have been outsourced.  They are friendly, but not helpful, and I am getting tired the of various time consuming trouble shooting steps.

I wish MS would fix this.  Until they do, some office commentary from the company would be nice.  I haven't yet tried to replace the computer, that too will be time consuming, and from what I've read here probably won't accomplish anything.

MS: time to tell the public what's going on with this issue.

If i leave the machine plugged and let it go to sleep i don't have the issue (don't close the lid). If it goes into hibernate it crashes every single time.  I have had to way of avoiding the crash when on battery. This has been going on for a while and surprised someone from Microsoft has not responded on this thread.

I'm on my 4th device at the moment, first one was replaced for another reason, but the second one was for this. Same with the third. It's an issue with all the batches.

Hardware was my gut feeling and became my hope when able to exchange for a late-model.

As I said, having had a few friendly visits to the same MS store helped in that they knew I was at least reasonably proficient at thoroughly testing and have product knowledge, but ultimately I believe the factors in an exchange for a new-new SB are:

1.) Buy Surfaces from a MS Store (or at minimum, direct from Microsoft online) as MS Stores are the only places to provide more-or-less full service for this product line. That would include the possibility of insisting on a new-new Surface and having a chance at actually getting one.

2.) Be nice. Be friendly. The store employees, like all retail folk, are bombarded by ignorant, rude people demanding things they have no or little understanding of all day, so strive to show the opposite even when you're frustrated.

3.) Prepare to offer a detailed and thorough analysis of what you've experienced, prior efforts to resolve, and have your machine's logs to show in case they should like to look. Willingness to show even just Event Viewer logs helps illustrate you might know what you're talking about. I'd recommend having the event logs illustrating the sequence of events surrounding the issue you're experiencing, which should look near-identical to what has been posted here and many other forums/threads. Your SB Serial Number should lead to your manufacture date. After making your case, request what you'd like firmly but politely...possibly while holding a rabbit's foot.

4.) Be thankful you live near a MS Store. I'm not sure what to advise if you don't, but we all have a 1 year warranty from date of purchase, so theoretically I'd like to think it's not impossible to do the above via telephone. https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/surface-warranty
