SurfaceBook Crashes/Shutdowns During Sleep

My SB (i5, 256gb, 8gb, GeforceGPU) keeps crashing/freezing during sleep which causes it to shut down. According to the windows reliability monitor it has been happening every day multiple time.

I though I was going crazy because I clearly remember not turning it off before putting it to sleep. I recently had my original SB replaced with a new one which fixed most of the issues from blue screens to flickering that would not go away. But this new one still has the Hello Camera issue where it wont turn on during startup and this new problem that has popped up.

Is this caused by a hardware defect? I really don't want to drive 23km to the other side of my city to get another replacement at a Microsoft store if the issues aren't resolved. Here's an image on the report. As you can see, there are 17 critical events today not to mention all the other days as well. Thanks.

If anyone has a solution that isn't a complete factory reset or system reinstall (I've tried them before) that would be great.

I also have experienced this problem. I was able to put everything to hibernate which helped but I still experienced crashes on start up. The issues became worse with the NVidia update.

I have returned my Surface Book. I hope Microsoft release either a batch where this is fixed or the next generation proves to be better.

After this experience I believe Microsoft doesn't run their own products in house. The rest of the product is great but how they missed this big problem when getting so many small things right is mind boggling.

Unfortunately I can confirm this does not solve the problem on my Surface Book. It still crashes randomly in Sleep. Sometimes it will go for a day or two, other times it will crash in a few hours.

I can confirm that this tweak works with my SurfaceBook. I fully charged it and left it in sleep mode for 3 days and when I came back, it was still in sleep mode and didn't crash. The battery level was at 15% and windows switched to power saving mode. I also tested this when it was plugged in for 36 hours. Also fine. Thanks for the tip!

    Status Update:

    1. On May 8 morning, I did the following per TianjiWu's suggestion:

In Device Manager, under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers", for "UAB Root Hub (xHCI)" unchecked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under "Power management" tab.

For the next 30 hours (1-1/2 days), there was no sleep-crash (sleep mode enabled, hibernate disabled) during long sleeps and overnight sleep.

    1. On May 9 evening, Windows Update installed many "Intel Driver Updates":

For the next 24 hours (1 day), there was no sleep-crash (sleep mode enabled, hibernate disabled) during long sleeps and overnight sleep.

    1. On May 10 evening, Windows Update installed "Cumulative Update...":

For the next 24 hours (1 day, there was no sleep-crash (sleep mode enabled, hibernate disabled) during long sleeps and overnight sleep.

    1. On May 11 evening, Windows Update installed "Update for Windows 10...":

For the next 120 hours (5 days), there was no sleep-crash (sleep mode enabled, hibernate disabled) during long sleeps and overnight sleeps.

    1. On May 16 evening, Windows Update installed "NVIDIA driver update...":

Few the next 48 hours (2 days), there was two sleep-crashes (sleep mode enabled, hibernate disabled) during overnight sleeps.

It looks like item 1 above, made difference in stopping the sleep-crashes. For 8 days, I did not experience any sleep-crash. I tested various scenarios - plugged in and sleep for long periods and overnights; on battery and sleep for long periods and overnights (the battery drainage while sleep was very minimal).

However item 5 above messed things up. I have had two sleep-crashes in two overnights.
