Lost Touch Capabilities on Surface Pro 3 and I2C HID Device error 10

I have owned my Surface Pro 3 since day one. Therefore, before suggesting the warranty replacement, my device is out of warranty.

My touchscreen started having issues the end of August it would work intermittently upon restart and reset. After 3 days of it being intermittent it completely stopped working. The touch and pen functions do not work. The windows button is intermittent.

I have reset the device, done the volume button and power button restart. I then did a complete factory reset to no avail. I then did a usb reinstall and still no touchscreen abilities have returned.

When looking at the drivers I have an error 10 in the I2C HID Device.

I also see:

Event 264 A multi-touch device reported inconsistent contact information.

Event 121 Driver install failed

Event 411

Device ACPI\NTRG0001\1 had a problem starting.

Driver Name: hidi2c.inf

Service: hidi2c

Upper Filters: mshidkmdf

I am also unable to update to the latest firmware I have attempted multiple times and it always starts the update and fails almost immediately. I am at a loss for what to do with the device, any ideas?

It sounds like you need to backup any data and try a complete reimage from the

downloadable recovery image at

http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/downloadablerecoveryimage

  • not sure if the USB you tried was one you created yourself or the downloadable

one.

If you still have these issues, you will need to contact support as there really

isn't anything else other than an out of warranty replacement.

All MS suggestion don't work for me.

In recovery mode, touch is the same status, sometime it works, sometime doesn't.

It seems it is a hardware issue.

My SP3 is a exchange product and it have problem just while I get it from MS and warranty is over

    What a bad quality control!

I just had the same problem since yesterday. Tried to restore a windows update that took place the day before but that didn't help.
