Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Crackling Sound

I've had my MS Pro 4 for a few days now. Updates are installed and it's working fine. I hear a crackling or arcing sound every once in a while. It even happens when in sleep mode. Should I be concerned or is there an explanation for this?

I have this issue intermittently on my Surface Book connected via SurfaceDock DisplayPort to an LG Ultrawide Screen which then has the speakers plugged in to it. I have two machine plugged in to the screen, the SB by DisplayPort and the second machine, an HP EliteBook, via HDMI. The HP does not suffer the problem.

The crackling will start at random, no movement of the device, cables, etc. Once it starts disconnecting and reconnecting seems to address the issue, whether that means disconnecting the dock from the Surface Book, or powering off the monitor and back on. It may not happen again for days or it could restart within a few minutes.

No obvious failures record in any of the event logs around the time of the issue.

Running 1809 (17763.134), but has happened across production and pre-release builds.

I also have this crackling issue.  At first I thought that my neighbors in the next apartment were tapping the wall but I realized the sound was coming from inside my bedroom, which is where my computer is.   Just quite loud crackling coming from the hardware.  I have not found a pattern for mine yet.  But it definitely does it when the computer is off and should be sleeping.

A workaround while M$ goes ahead and ignores this problem...

shut down the Surface instead of sleeping... it boots super fast so it’s not a huge inconvience, and shuts down the speaker so no more noise.

Microsoft - please see my post from September 1, 2018 for the offending event from the Event Viewer.

PLEASE NOTE: This same event happens EVERY SINGLE TIME concurrent with the crackling sound.  It has been reproduced daily for the LAST SIX MONTHS.  When an issue can be reproduced HUNDREDS OF TIMES and the same event shows up every time, it is clearly related.

It's absolutely befuddling to me that the user base has provided Microsoft so much information and your development team can't figure this out.  My guess is that there is absolutely NO communication whatsoever between the Windows 10 OS development team, the Surface hardware team, and the folks who moderate your web site.

    PLEASE FIX THIS.

I too have not experienced the sleep of death since running the diagnostic tool, but's it's still early.

The crackling is no longer occurring when the device is sleeping on battery.  Instead, it now happens when I wake it up by pressing the power button.
