Surface pro 7 Black Screen while in Use

Hey there,

i'm having this weird issue with my Surface pro 7 that it's Screen seemingly randomly turns black.

Specifically:

When i'm at the lowest Brightness(0) and i playback a video on mpc-hc the screen of the surface just turns black.

The playback is still running i can still hear the sound from the video, just visually i see a black screen. 

I can fix it by pressing the power button once and locking it. Then unlock it again and the black screen is gone.

This issue only happens when my brightness is at 0.

    i was facing the exact same problem but i contacted Microsoft and they identified it as a hardware defect and provided me with a replacement, you may try to ask them for a replacement as well

    Hi There,

    I had the same issue but now its resolved with the below solution.

    step 1: Upgrade to windows OS version to 2004. (OS: Windows 10 Home, Version: 2004, Build No: 19041.508 

    Step 2: Install the Intel graphics command center from Microsoft store.

    Step 3: And go to System -> Power -> Adaptive brightness to OFF

    Step 4: And go to System -> Power -> change the Power efficiency to 2 or less.

    Step 5(Optional if the above steps won't work): System -> Power ->Display power saving to OFF

    I experience the same black out problem from the recently bought microsoft surface 7. This is really annoying. The stylus is also annoying. Compared to ipad, the Surface is not smart and smooth. Don't know why i experience frequent black out.

    for what it's worth: i recently started experiencing what i thought was random black screen. After some experimentation, I saw it was going black when in a browser (doesn't matter which) and hover over any link. Screen went black for a few moments. I then remembered that I had changed the position of the taskbar to LEFT and that is when the misbehavior started. I moved the Taskbar back to bottom and then to RIGHT. The misbehavior did not occur after doing so.

    I have exactly the same configuration with same problem with links and Taskbar. I will try to follow your example and I will report about the results. 

    UPDATE: Applied Bruce's solution and everything works great for last couple of days. Putting it in David's words from post below: Bruce, you are hero! :)
