Surface pro 7 Black Screen while in Use

Hey there,

i'm having this weird issue with my Surface pro 7 that it's Screen seemingly randomly turns black.

Specifically:

When i'm at the lowest Brightness(0) and i playback a video on mpc-hc the screen of the surface just turns black.

The playback is still running i can still hear the sound from the video, just visually i see a black screen. 

I can fix it by pressing the power button once and locking it. Then unlock it again and the black screen is gone.

This issue only happens when my brightness is at 0.

    I empathize with you. My new (2-month-old) SP7 was replaced by a refurbished unit which seems to work periodically ie immediately after major updates. Now I live in fear as to when the next hiccup eg black screen, flickering & the like may strike. I never pray for my own health but I do pray for the health of my SP7 these days. Spending quite a bit of time going thru' these forums desperately hoping to find a solution for my multiple problems.

    I have tried many solutions posted online, but most of them did not help except for three things:

    1.  Under Display in system settings, make sure that "Change brightness automatically when lighting changes" is unchecked. This made the most difference in fixing ran random occurrences of black screens when I use the Surface Pen.

    2.  If you get a black screen when using the battery, install the Intel Graphics Command Center (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/intel-graphics-command-center) and disable all the options under "Power"

    1. If you get black screens in specific apps (especially Zoom/Teams etc.), disable GPU acceleration in those apps.

    After these changes, I only get a black screen occasionally when using the Surface Pen in Zoom and it then comes back after a few seconds. I am also getting the same behavior when using an active pen on a Lenovo laptop, so I blame Zoom instead of Surface for such black screens.

    Have you tried installing the latest drivers through Windows Update? At some point, this problem went away for me. If you want you can also try the Windows Insider program, a bunch of my problems apparently went away at around that time. Try installing the drivers first, see if that fixes the problem.

    Yeah. I will return the surface pro this week. But returning is easy . Harassment is endless. Deeply frustrated. Better is iPad.

    I'm having the same issue with my brand new pro, except it apostates appears to be totally random.   Thinking about returning it : (
