The pen tab is designed to be attached to the keyboard. But when I detach the Pro3 from the keyboard I no longer have access to the pen. On my Surface Pro 1 I attached a loop to the right side which worked except when I put it in the docking station.
What are you doing to store your pen?

When I get mine, I plan on getting a small bag for it to keep everything in it. Personally, I wouldn't use the pen 99% of the time anyway and the pen can just stay in the bag.
I actually use the pen a lot more than I thought I would.
Hers a video describing was to store it. The magnet at the power connector is the strongest, but not full time secure solution...
Yea, I remember now, the speaker mentioned it for about a second or two and I wasn't paying any attention to it.
That video shows a pen holder attached to the keyboard/cover (Pro 3 version). Now, that was not shown in the conference. They did have the keyboards but they kept moving them around and you couldn't see much of them.
If that is true and people buy the Type Cover 3 to go along with the tablet, then there is no real issue for storage. It will be right there on the side of the keyboard.
I will probably create a few uses for it when I get it. I plan to get the Pro 3 type cover as well to go along with it.
However, I do have the Microsoft Wedge Keyboard that I don't use with anything anymore and that puppy has a full set of keys to include a PrntScn key. It also has a cover that can be used as a stand for a tablet. Actually, it works great and you can angle the tablet to any angle you want. That and the Wedge mouse (I don't like the Arch mouse they have) and the Wedge mouse is extremely small and just perfect for use with a tablet. Use it all the time with my RT.
I am already shopping around for a bag for the Pro 3 and saw a Messenger Bag at Wal-Marts' web site that would work perfect. I have one similar to it that I use with my RT.
Now, if Microsoft would quit getting the tablets shipped via the slowest boats from China, things will go great. Have to wait until 1 August for the i3 and i7 models.
Why don't you stick the pen holder to the back of the Surface instead of the keyboard?
If you read the instructions that come with the cover it states (ironically as it is never shown this way) that it is designed to attach to the smooth surface of the Surface Device not the fabric cover...
Jeff, Just looked at the instructions that came with the cover and loop. Looks to me that the loop is attached to the cover and not the device itself.
Thanks everyone for responding. I think the Surface Pro 3 maybe too new for anyone to have tried it enough to find pros and cons for the placement of the loop.
Attaching it to the underside of the device, as someone suggests, will not allow the device to sit flat on a desk
As I said earlier, I attached a loop to the right side of my Surface Pro 1. It wasn't in the way of anything except when I placed the device in the docking station. Then I had to remove the pen and chance loosing it. But it was on my desk so the chance was slim. That won't work on the Pro 3 because there are too many connections on all sides to make this feasible.
Just wanted to see if anyone had any success with placing the pen storage (loop) in a convenient place for retrieval when the keyboard was not attached to the device.
