unable to use other text apps from android store

i have downloaded other text messaging apps from the google app store and they will not work, as in not receiving texts from people. Why? Is the default installed text application the only application I can use?

    Which Carrier are you currently with? If you are on Verizon can you confirm if your device is set up CDMA-less?

    I tries Textra. I made sure I used the correct phone number and it was selected as the default sms app. no joy.

    I had used Textra. I used it on my Google pixel just fine prior to moving over to the Duo so I would assume it would be a device issue.

    Hello,

    Which apps have you tried this with and are these apps utilizing a different phone number. If they are using the same phone number you may try to go to Settings, Apps and Notifications, Default Apps, Select SMS app and choose the app of choice.

    Since you did not name the text apps you downloaded from Google it would be quicker for you to contact the respective app developers and ask them why the app is not working properly.
