I think that they have finally solved the issue. I have had battery drains overnight in excess of 20%. A couple of days ago however, I noticed an update labeled, "System Hardware Update - 2015-04-28" and a bunch of, "Update for Windows RT 8.1" updates. After installing them, battery drain in connected standby is much lower. In 10 hours, I lost 3% instead of 20%. This has been consistent in the last few days. Hopefully this update will solve your issue as well.
Battery drain with Unregistered device SE?
Hi all,
Lately I've been noticing a large battery drain (at least by my standards) of ~1-2% per hour during connected standby. Based on what's advertised (7-10 days idle) I'm getting ~4 days at best? I ran the sleep study, battery report and energy report and came up with interesting results. I've also calibrated the battery and have no current pending updates. Any ideas as to why the large battery drain during standby?
Also sorry in advance for the long post. I'm not sure how to post the full reports on this forum.

2015-04-26T20:31:35+00:00 You should all try installing Windows RT Refresh IR5
I wrote a guide here;
It's worth a shot. I run it...this is my drain for almost 26 hours of sleep with Wi-Fi on and receiving and mail notification..so a full battery should sleep like 15 or so days;

2015-04-11T09:11:23+00:00 Thanks for the info!
I have the exact same problem (Surface 2, newest updates) Unregistered device SE is on any single sleepstudy report up to the last date I get information on (january 17th, 2015).
I can not generate a sleepstudy report for some reason because I get this: “An unexpected error condition has occurred. Unable to perform operation. You may not have permission to perform this operation.” And yes... I am doing the report "in admin mode" so that's not the case... This problem seems to be another issue with some guy having a workaround (he wrote an exe file solving the problem) which we can not use with our RT devices (because of the .exe file).
Anyway... I have a huge battery drain during the connected standby. In 10 hours more than 30%... so every night I lose about that amount of battery power just because of this annyoing issue... Because of my sleepstudy report not working any more I can not say what exactly is draing my battery most, but I am pretty sure it is Unregistered device SEbecause of it being on every single sleepstudy report before...
I love my Surface 2, but this just annoys me!
Microsoft do something!!!
And I don't mean some rediculuous "solutions" like refreshing and so on... we can clearly see (after more than 7 pages of dicussions about this issue) that's not going to help...
I sure hope that update the tech person was talking about (@l.whitmarsh) is "real"...

2015-04-10T04:18:56+00:00 I've been in contact with MS Support over the last few months about the issue. Completely useless until today. The agent knew nothing about the issue, how connected standby works, or what a sleep study was, but after 45 minutes of teaching her things, she put me on hold to talk to someone. She came back saying there is another system firmware update in the works and that it would probably fix any issues the device had. DON'T get your hopes up, but the case was escalated and i'll be hearing from an elevated support tier soon. Maybe they'll get it together AN ENTIRE YEAR after the issue surfaced (pun intended).

2015-03-29T11:59:56+00:00 So, still no movement on this. Lost 30% of my battery charge overnight while I slept. Really at a loss as to why this recognised issue hasn't been resolved yet. Can any of our MS associated colleagues provide an update? If not, can they please escalate with a view to getting one? Thank you.
