Surface Pen makes screen flash black

I recently purchased a Surface Go to use for in-class note taking, along with a surface pen. I have been using it for approximately 2 weeks and have noticed an issue when using the pen. Randomly, about once a day when taking notes in OneNote, when I press the pen to the screen, the screen will flash black. Oddly, this only occurs when using solid colors for the the pen and pencil. The highlighter and rainbow colors do not do this. I can fix it by restarting it, but it is an inconvenience. Any ideas what is causing it and how I can prevent it from happening in the future?

    Surprisingly, quite the opposite happened. As other users pointed out, Windows 10 version 2004 onwards seem to have Window Manager\Window Manager Group already added. In an attempt to try to re-add, I removed it. Big mistake. I was unable to add it back. 

    Searching online I came across a way to add it back by exporting the security settings as an INF file, appending "*S-1-5-90-0" wherever necessary, and importing back into gpedit. It unfortunately worked for all other entries, but not for "Increase Scheduling Priority".

    Instead, this seems to have the opposite effect. I no longer face the screen flicker issue while using Windows INK Workspaces such as OneNote, Snip & Sketch, and Whiteboard. 

    This does work and persists after multiple reboots. I wouldn't necessarily call this a "Solution" since I have no idea how or why the opposite to the advice provided worked, but it did for me.

    My University IT adjusted rolled it back for me, so they might have taken care of that

    As a follow up, a new issue arose after I disabled the display adapter. With it disabled I could no longer adjust the brightness of my screen. It was stuck on a dim setting. I re-enabled the display adapter and we'll see how it goes.

    This worked for me too, but without the custom driver I can no longer connect to an external display, which in my use case was a bigger loss so I re-installed the driver.

    I was following your advice, however when I tried, it was already done. It must have been added in the version 2004 update. The bad thing is that this did not work. It is a shame to have such a high end computer such as this and Microsoft cannot get a simple whiteboard to work correctly. Thanks anyway for your assistance.
