Surface Duo and Media Player for OneDrive Files

I have to download and store my music because I live in an area where there is little wifi access. I was able to connect my Duo to OneDrive and get the files to my Duo, but so far I have not been able to find a single MP3 player that can find the OneDrive music folder.

So far I have been through about a dozen players and they can play a file if I start within the OneDrive Music folder, but never find the folder to set up the library. All the players seem to go to the Android root folder and you are then stuck with no way to search outside that area.

Any ideas would be appreciated?

Hello,

I wanted to get clarification on what actions you're taking so we can better determine the issue and resolution.

Are you trying to play the music through OneDrive or are you downloading the music onto your Duo?

If you are downloading them, are they being saved on the Duo as an MP3 file?

Finally after about 10 or 12 downloads I found a version of the VLC player that would locate the files on a search but you cannot look for them through any file function within the app

It appears that all the MP3 players are only pointed toward the Android Music Folder and don't give you the ability to specify another location

The files are MP3 files and are on my local One Drive Music folder, and are downloaded to the Duo since I don't always have internet access in such a remote location

Since I find it much easier to modify the file data on my PC I want to do that work with a full keyboard and keep them in sync on the Duo

I forgot to say I am in love with the Duo form factor and hope MSFT will keep up development. I am a long time Win Mobile user and have just swapped to the Duo when my last HP Elite died in a fall. The only thing better would be a Win Mobile or a true Win 10 version of the Duo. But as with all devices the apps are key to acceptance.

VLC allows you to browse the storage folders and designate which folders you want to include in the VLC music library. Tap More on the bottom ribbon menu and then Settings. Then tap Media library folders and select the folder where you downloaded the One Drive files to. Note that when you download the files you can select where they are stored. I would suggest that you use the Music folder and then mark that as part of the VLC library. But you can use any folder you want.

Actually I have discovered that because VLC is open source there are many versions and I cannot get back to the version that once found the files

I know my media files have been downloaded to the Duo, I think, because I can see them listed as an offline folder

I can also open the folder and see the subfolders and files

But nothing I do seems to keep them in sync with my Laptop, and no music app can consistently see them

This has been made much harder than it should be in my opinion because MSFT doesn't have a Duo specific app much like dropping all music players on other devices

Just experimenting I occasionally find an app that will see the files when it searches the first time, but none seem to keep them in sync

Could this have something to do with shares on OneDrive or the DUO

Help!

Did you install the VLC app from Google Play or sideload it as an apk file from a different source?
