Surface Pro 7 shutting down randomly

If the device stays idle for a minute it directly shuts down. I have checked all the sleep and power settings and that's not an issue. I see this was an issue in previous versions too. **Any fix?**There are some answers to this which might have worked for some (marked as answer), but definitely not for everyone. If you face it, I strongly recommend returning it as the stress during this whole process is ridiculous and not worth it.

UPDATE:

After going through returning and rebuying 4 surface pro 7 devices (thanks to Costco). I decided to ditch it. The worst part is that Costco has essentially banned me from buying any laptops from them, even though I repeatedly told them that the devices were having issues.  I just loved the device for its utility and I really wanted it to work out. Microsoft and Costco should beashamed** of this.

The first 3 devices were returned in <1-2 months. The 4th one stayed longest (3 months), not because it was perfect but because of the pandemic. I loved the device in general. I was hoping I would not have problems with the 4th device. I did not have the random shutdowns but I started having

  • sudden blue screens with faulty_hardware error
  • the display would just temporarily turn off even though the machine is working(happened during a zoom call, when they could still see and hear me but my screen was black)
  • The s creen had a 2cm square with distorted pixels (picture), out of the blue while I was working. It went back to normal automatically

@RuudBiJvank I have no reason to doubt that you fail to see what this has to do with the topic.  People rarely read the entire thread, but just look for instant gratification.  You won't get that in this thread.  Microsoft has decidedly chosen to ignore this issue and abandon their customers.  Read above if you care to learn more.

The only working solution on my device was to disable Intel Turbo Boost:

    Great Job!!!!

It works for me but as the second surface Pro7 during warranty, I am very disappointed with this product.

I have bought iPad Pro 11” and Surface pro 7, i7, 256 both from Harvey Norman, Sydney, Australia.

My iPad Pro is working like a Mercedess Benz but it is my second Surface during warranty.

first one had a flashing on screen and the second one is force shut down!

I have done everything to fix it even go to recovery and I sacrificed many softwares downloaded but did not work.

Just after 30 seconds, it got shut down!!!

But this was a great solution. Try it. It works!!!

I returned mine and got a new one yesterday. This has done the same. Now the new device has auto-brightness or auto-contrast issues. The screen keeps flickering randomly.

    I have similar issues on SF pro 7 i5-10 8GB 256GB, 4 weeks old device. @Janette_Z

    Issues:

    • sometimes the brightness adjustment stucks and i can only change brightness after a restart. Sliders and keys dont work anymore until restart.
    • sometimes i have a bad auto-brightness flickering and i need to lower or raise brightness to stop it flickering
    • several times my explorer crashes and needs to restart
    • apps like Chrome freeze when i swap the window, when i tab back i need to wait more than 5 seconds until i can use chrome or i need to grab the top bar and move the window to wake it up
    • apps like OneNote, Adobe Illustrator or IntelliJ Idea (programming software) sometimes randomly crashes
    • random black screens and freezes of the screen, closing sometimes all open tasks, power button off on helps sometimes

In most cases the device is charging or is full battery and in best performance mode, so no limitation here.
