Surface Pro 7 shutting down randomly

If the device stays idle for a minute it directly shuts down. I have checked all the sleep and power settings and that's not an issue. I see this was an issue in previous versions too. **Any fix?**There are some answers to this which might have worked for some (marked as answer), but definitely not for everyone. If you face it, I strongly recommend returning it as the stress during this whole process is ridiculous and not worth it.

UPDATE:

After going through returning and rebuying 4 surface pro 7 devices (thanks to Costco). I decided to ditch it. The worst part is that Costco has essentially banned me from buying any laptops from them, even though I repeatedly told them that the devices were having issues.  I just loved the device for its utility and I really wanted it to work out. Microsoft and Costco should beashamed** of this.

The first 3 devices were returned in <1-2 months. The 4th one stayed longest (3 months), not because it was perfect but because of the pandemic. I loved the device in general. I was hoping I would not have problems with the 4th device. I did not have the random shutdowns but I started having

  • sudden blue screens with faulty_hardware error
  • the display would just temporarily turn off even though the machine is working(happened during a zoom call, when they could still see and hear me but my screen was black)
  • The s creen had a 2cm square with distorted pixels (picture), out of the blue while I was working. It went back to normal automatically

Omg, same issue here, I bought mine just last month. Random shutdown and once shutdown, it won't turn on immediately (I tried to hold the power button or power button + volume up button for longer than 30s).

So frustrating, I hope it is not a hardware issue :(

I could see that this thread started in December 2019 so 3 months has passed :(

Following 3 shutdowns in 15 minutes, I've tried "Option 4" quoted several times in this post and had stable operations for about 2.5 hours since then. Doesn't seem to be a "cons" to this one as far as I can see so far.

The problem commenced 3 months ago- The Facial Recognition failed to work when the computer screen went dark. I heard the sound that the system was active but the screen did not display. Only after plugging into a second screen was the display visible on the second screen. So I switched it off facial recognition and use a PIN entry thinking it was the facial signin issue. The problem is not with the Facial recognition

My device goes to sleep when in battery mode. The problem is when i press ON button at the top I can hear the device 'ding' but cannot see the screen. It stays blank. Even when I plug into the power i cannot see the screen. Randomly I am moving the tablet and trying different positioning and then a flash of the screen would appear and then disappear? very strange, and today, the same thing happened and i can only see a faint outline of the sign in screen maybe 5% brightness and difficulty to see to enter the pin. I tried 10 times pressing the ON button to try to get a brighter screen so that i can log in.

Why does the ON button not awaken the tablet with a bright screen? the battery is full and not discharged
