Not able to pair replacement USB Link with Surface Headphones 2+

I received my Surface USB Link replacement and try to follow the instructions at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/get-a-replacement-for-microsoft-surface-usb-link-e862e6c6-0945-494f-bb4d-2e731f3b4724. But the Surface app does not show "Surface Headphones" as a listed accessory in the Surface app. I can connect the headphones via Bluetooth, and then they show if the usb link is not plugged in. As soon as I insert the usb link they go away from the Surface app.

The USB link is showing as an audio device, but I have no way to pair it with my head phones. Another issue is that the Surface app crash on most PC's when I launch it, but I have it running on one at least.

Any suggestions/ideas on how to pair the replacement USB link with my headphones?

    Hi MVP,

I didn't notice this before please see screenshot attached, but it does say what you mention.

It looks like maybe some new firmware is needed for the headphone or we just need that software that they use in the factory to pair new USB link.

Doubt it as the reset article states:

"When you reset your Surface Headphones 2+, they’ll still be paired with your Microsoft Surface USB Link because they’re paired together at the factory."

This is about pairing with a replacement USB Link.

    Hi StevenK_M,

That still doesn't work for me I have exactly same situation that we are Not able to pair replacement USB Link with Surface Headphones 2+ I did try to update the Surface app and even switching off Bluetooth to force USB Link but that doesn't work in some way it looks like you can connect, but doesn't allow to connect with USB Link if I toggle to switch it ON(in headphones setting in Surface app) it is switching off automatically in about 2 sec. and surface app constantly switching Headphones 2+ to Bluetooth! It looks like it is not possible to connect to that replacement USB Link.

Can you do internal testing to try to pair replacement USB Link with Surface Headphones 2+ as this is still not working and all the steps "how to" are not working to pair replacement USB Link.

I'm using Windows 11 on Surface Pro 8 and I did try this on another laptop with Windows 10 same problem on both.

    Thanks

    Matt

    Hello there, Matt_S433.

We really appreciate your time and effort in trying to isolate the issue. It's unfortunate that it still did not work.

At this point, please try resetting the firmware of Surface headphones 2+ first and in that way it would also disconnect from its previous host devices. See Reset Surface Headphones (microsoft.com). Then, try to redo the pairing again.

Let me know how it goes.
