The ac charger allows you for much quicker charging time. One must think of the pros/cons of each situation. Is usb charging more practical in some scenarios? Yes. But ac charging is a lot faster and also available in many more scenarios - imagine a train
ride or something, there are no usb sockets in there...
Your reply totally misses the point, there are a number of scenarios where an AC power source is not an option, and alternatives like external battery packs, solar chargers, and DC outlets (like on some airplanes) are the only alternatives. And that is totally
besides the issue that the AC only, custom charging connector means that I have to carry yet another power adapter with me. I am very frustrated with manufacturers who feel they need to come up with yet another non standard power connector.
And in reply to HairyFool, it would be self defeating if Microsoft were to prevent third parties from creating alternative solutions to AC only charging, and as a Msft share holder, I certainly hope that they are doing everything they can to encourage accessory
makers.
