Pen taps registering as double clicks

I installed a pending driver update on my SP4 yesterday and the anniversary update today. Now tapping with the pen registers as a double-click about 10% of the time, which makes pen input pretty much useless. The usual calibration options and settings in Settings, Control Panel and the Surface app didn't have any effect on this. I tried manually installing the latest SP4 drivers (8/3) but that didn't change anything, either.

This is also noticeable when drawing a continuous line. The The pen is suddenly detected as not pressed, and immediately again as pressed.

Hey everyone,

I was like everybody, ever since I got my Surface Pro 4 my pen always randomly double-click while I tried to use touch keyboard.

So after I tried to search through all the forums and reddit. I stumbled into this site:

Basically it lets you re-calibrate your pen.

-Simply type "calibrate" into your search bar and choose "calibrate the screen for pen or touch input".

-Choose "Setup" to first reset your pen by clicking the screen when prompt one time, then press enter after that to return.

-Choose "Calibrate" and then "Pen input".

-Use the pen to tap on the cross-hair point at the corner of your screen (It's kinda hard to find, but just follow the line and you'll see them eventually.

-After you are done, choose "Save"

This basically solve the problem for me, so I hope this help the others who are looking for a solution as well :)

    This is happening to me as well on both the official release and Fast Ring Insider builds on both the Surface 4 and the Surface Book. I have tried other pens with the same result. I've tried playing with the sensitivity controls but that does not help. I would say I've experienced this for 6 months and it has caused me to tap type with my finger instead of being frustrated with the pen.

    Come on MS.  Please address this crucial flawed functionality.

    I am also having this problem. Across multiple pens.  I'm glad to see that it seems to be software related - but it's driving me nuts. I use stylus as a point in Excel. A LOT.

    I'll keep an eye here for reports of a fix.

    I am in an IT department and we have been trying to get this resolved for some time. It's only happens with the pen and not a all using touch. We have done all the steps required by micorsoft support including updates, resets, the phantom touch fix. (we have an ongoing case still open). We are on round three of replacing the problem units. We have tried many, many pens. The issue is still not resolved. We have been testing with no apps installed, using notepad or the steps recorder(type steps recorder in the search box). The steps recorder app tracks pen taps or mouse click and is able to distinguish single taps from double taps. It saves the results including a screen capture of each tap. We are constantly seeing single clicks produce double click results, for example single click an item in device manager opens the properties windows. That should not happen single clicking an entry. I have sent the steps recorder results to MS support but that has not helped in getting a solution. I even setup a store appointment. The tech was able to reproduce the issue. He suggested just being careful when you tap on the screen. Not really an option in the normal use of the system and solves nothing. I was given a document covering the complaint but he would not include the fact that he could reproduce the problem.

    I bet their next suggestion will be to upgrade to a surface 5 when that comes out.  Why do the words "class action" keep popping up in my mind.  Hmmmm.
