Pen taps registering as double clicks

I installed a pending driver update on my SP4 yesterday and the anniversary update today. Now tapping with the pen registers as a double-click about 10% of the time, which makes pen input pretty much useless. The usual calibration options and settings in Settings, Control Panel and the Surface app didn't have any effect on this. I tried manually installing the latest SP4 drivers (8/3) but that didn't change anything, either.

This is also noticeable when drawing a continuous line. The The pen is suddenly detected as not pressed, and immediately again as pressed.

Hey everyone,

I was like everybody, ever since I got my Surface Pro 4 my pen always randomly double-click while I tried to use touch keyboard.

So after I tried to search through all the forums and reddit. I stumbled into this site:

Basically it lets you re-calibrate your pen.

-Simply type "calibrate" into your search bar and choose "calibrate the screen for pen or touch input".

-Choose "Setup" to first reset your pen by clicking the screen when prompt one time, then press enter after that to return.

-Choose "Calibrate" and then "Pen input".

-Use the pen to tap on the cross-hair point at the corner of your screen (It's kinda hard to find, but just follow the line and you'll see them eventually.

-After you are done, choose "Save"

This basically solve the problem for me, so I hope this help the others who are looking for a solution as well :)

    Yeah, you are probably right. And I do not live even remotely close to a Microsoft store. Actually I don't think we have any physical store in Norway yet. You know, MS has not released the surface book here yet, in spite of a huge demand, i think it launches (officially) this or next month. 

    PS! If anyone finds a solution or a way to reduce the problem, please post it here!

    I think I may have found a solution.  It at least has cut mine back to very minimal double taps.  Not sure if I just never noticed this before or if it is something that was added in the last update:

    1st:  In the Surface App I have the Pen Pressure Sensitivity all thee way to the left.  (It has been there since just after the double tapping started.)

    2nd:  What I found after the latest update:

    -Open Control Panel

    -Hardware and Sound

    -Pen and Touch

    -Change Tablet Pen Settings

    -Click on the Flicks tab

    -I set my pen sensitivity to Precise

    I may also turn Flicks off since I have no idea what it's actually doing.  As I mentioned above, I still get double taps but they don't seem to be as often.

    Let me know if this helps or if anyone else finds a solution to stop it entirely.

    Sadly, this doesn't help. I actually needed 6 tries to get through the calibration process, because of the pen double clicking. But even after I made it through without a double click it still didn't improve the situation. 

    This calibration is designed to fix a touch offset. I doubt it can help with this problem. Are you really sure it made a difference? Because for me, it clearly didn't.

    The "double-tap" is most likely a bug in the touch firmware/driver introduced with the anniversary update. Since the next Surface Pro is just around the corner, I don't think this will ever be fixed.

    Just so you all know:  The new surface pen, which is backwards compatible with the surface pro 4, exhibits the same problem.  This further illustrates that the problem is with the pro 4's firmware, not anything else.  There is a firmware upgrade coming, which will make the tilt information on the new pen work with the pro 4.  Hopefully that will include the fix for the double click problem - but, at this point, I am not hopeful.

    I did get a chance to try out the new surface side by side with a pro 4 at best buy.  In the 5 minutes I had with the new surface, I was not able to reproduce the double click problem.  I was able to reproduce it on the pro 4 display model, just not the new surface.

    So, the only current solution is to upgrade to the new surface pro (or downgrade to the pro 3, for that matter).  Both, I find unacceptable.  MS needs to get off their but and fix this.
