Pen taps registering as double clicks

I installed a pending driver update on my SP4 yesterday and the anniversary update today. Now tapping with the pen registers as a double-click about 10% of the time, which makes pen input pretty much useless. The usual calibration options and settings in Settings, Control Panel and the Surface app didn't have any effect on this. I tried manually installing the latest SP4 drivers (8/3) but that didn't change anything, either.

This is also noticeable when drawing a continuous line. The The pen is suddenly detected as not pressed, and immediately again as pressed.

Hey everyone,

I was like everybody, ever since I got my Surface Pro 4 my pen always randomly double-click while I tried to use touch keyboard.

So after I tried to search through all the forums and reddit. I stumbled into this site:

http://www.lovemysurface.net/remap-the-surface-pen-button/

Basically it lets you re-calibrate your pen.

-Simply type "calibrate" into your search bar and choose "calibrate the screen for pen or touch input".

-Choose "Setup" to first reset your pen by clicking the screen when prompt one time, then press enter after that to return.

-Choose "Calibrate" and then "Pen input".

-Use the pen to tap on the cross-hair point at the corner of your screen (It's kinda hard to find, but just follow the line and you'll see them eventually.

-After you are done, choose "Save"

This basically solve the problem for me, so I hope this help the others who are looking for a solution as well :)

Pruk

I would recommend against doing that. After going and getting a brand new surface issued to me at the Microsoft store that exhibited the exact same issue, I would say that effort would be futile and if you send it in you would most likely be receiving a refurbished device plus you would be without your surface for a good while. I ended up returning the surface altogether but it was most certainly a software issue. However if you live by a Microsoft store is it a good way to get a brand new surface!

It's frustrating. I'll probably end up sending mine in for a replacement, but I would rather not if the problem indeed is software related..

Your english is just fine, no worries there on the other the Surface is another thing! I was offered the same procedure, in which it will send the unit and have another one in 2 weeks, i find this kind of odd since the issue is still not solved at Microsoft period. Even with the new insider program updates it still persists!

I have the i5, 256gb, 8gb. I live in Norway and have the exact same issue.

I've been in contact with MS support. they offered to replace my unit with a unit of the same condition(they specified that it would not be a new unit). I was told it would take about two weeks before I could expect the replacement unit after they've recieved the old. They did not acknowledge that this was an issue. The icing on the cake was that I have to send the pen in as a separate repair.

I have the Creators update installed, which came with a firmware-update for the surface pro 4, but the problem persists. I've yet to decide whether I'm going to get a replacement. For me this is very uncovenient, as this is my main computer, and if I get a replacement device with the same issue it will just anger me further. My guess is that they can't admit that this is a problem (with units on both continents), because that equals bad publicity. My hope was for the Creators update to correct the issue, since it's more or less establlished in this thread that it works fine before a certain firmware update. They will probably just shove this under the carpet until the Surface 5 launches. They are pushing the Surface Pro 4 in Norway with discounts right now. Smells like a new surface is on its way.

And yes, i've tried ALL the troubleshooting.

I almost started to imagine MS as a nice company with premium support for their premium devices. Now I see them as just another greedy corporation. They need to acknowledge and adress this issue to rectify themselves.

Sorry if my english is wierd, it's not my native language.
