Slow Wifi with brand new Surface Book 2!!!

Hi, I had been having issues with wifi speed. It was fine all these days but yesterday after an update, the speeds fell from 500mbps to 50mbps!! I figured that the surface book 2 after the update was not connecting to 5GHZ network, I am using ORBI mesh routers. I went into wifi adapter properties and changed for it to connect to ONLY 5GHZ. Now the speeds are back up to 500 MBPS. I know that this is not something of a permanent solution as my suface book 2 now will not connect to 2.4ghz router signals at different locations...BUT at least at home i am able to get good speeds. Hope this solution will help to some of you. I am hoping that Microsoft will fix this issue in a firmware update soon.

I believe I may have found a fix for the Surface Book 2 slow wifi issue. Updating the NVIDIA graphics card drivers to the latest version, a normal restart, a force shutdown and then a 2 button (power & vol up) power on has fixed it. I now get full speed for 5GHz wifi on battery only (previously it only worked when plugged in).

Not sure which one of the actions fixed it, I updated the NVIDIA drivers as my power button had stopped working and someone had suggested it as a fix. Best guess; the NVIDIA drivers that ship with the Surface Book 2 have some sort of power management compatability issue and because they're a year out of date (July 2017) the fix implemented in later versions hasn't rolled out through windows update.

For anyone that wants to try the same (I tried all of the fixes mentioned elsewhere in this thread and none of them worked) here was my method:

1. Go to the NVIDIA site support section and download the relevant drivers (mine were the notebook 10 series GTX 1050 ones, I think the 15" version needs 1060 drivers?)
2. Install the drivers (my power button issue meant that the surface book kept "losing" the graphics card in device manager, detaching the screen and reattaching it let it find it again, but then I had to restart the install. Took 3 goes to complete the install)
3. Normal restart (just in case, I then got a BSOD and restarted again)
4. force shutdown (hold power button for ~20 seconds)
5. Two button power on (hold power button and volume up button down for ~30 seconds), the surface book booted to the UEFI and I just exited and it booted up normally.

After the above, my wifi has been fine and I've tested it with streaming high def files from YouTube, etc. and I checked with a large (700Mb) transfer between computers on my home network. Plus my power button works again :)

I've tried all the suggestions, and have had no luck...

But I HAVE found that this seems to be a 2.4 ghz issue.

I tried my hand with Microsoft support, and was at first impressed with their attempts to really dig down to find a resolution.... But then they asked that dreaded question about my network gear.... And I cringed when I said it, and I did say it..... "hardware VPN(SonicWall)", they then suddenly told me that they cannot help me at all.... LOL

Anyhoo.... I use Ubiquiti wireless AP's, and with that gives me some decent feedback on what's connected on my network...

My WAP's consist of somewhat dated "Outdoor" AP's(2.4ghz), and one new "Mesh" AP(2.4/5ghz) that sits in my home office...

I have a cluttered AP setup that covers every inch of my house, and continues to cover 3 acres of open grass....

But to the point... I get super poor speed tests when connected to any of my Outdoor AP's(2.4)... Poor = 3.5-10 Mbps...

I restart and sit within spitting distance of the new 5ghz.... And I get the same, but to only find that I'm still on the 2.4 bandwagon.... So after a couple of disconnects/connects to the same network/AP.... I finally get on the AC side of things.... and I then get wired speeds(115/20) in which is my ISP's speeds....

So this network card is not smart.... It takes a couple of tries to finally get to the best band....

It also appears that ABGN is broke and should at the very least get close to 54Mbps....

I can't rely on this laptop to do anything.... I cannot troubleshoot networks.... transferring files is painful.... And I just cannot trust this thing....

And after Microsoft support shutting me down because I had a hardware VPN in place, just makes me wish I would have gone to a ThinkPad or Dell....

Would you be willing to email me (sbradcpa-at-PacBell.net - change the -at- to @) and I can open up a business support case for you where they can probably help you much better with a SonicWall VPN setup?  I'd like to make sure this gets proper attention.  I'm a colleague of Barb's and she pointed out this post.

I will need a good call back number where Microsoft support can call you back and work with you on the issue.

I'm having the same problem, got my Surface Book 2, just 4 weeks ago and spent more than $3200 on it. WiFi constantly gives me 5 to 10 Mbps both at home and at work with Nighthawk AC1900 or Ubiquiti Enterprise WiFi access point.

My MacBook Pro sitting right beside my Surface gives me around 110 Mbps constantly. I also used an external USB WiFi Dongle which gave me 75 Mbps on the surface but the Marvell card doesn't go beyond 5 to 10. I also tried making it "5G" only, it doesn't go beyond 15 either.

Microsoft you have to do something !!!!
