Slow Wifi with brand new Surface Book 2!!!

I am so beyond disappointed!! I bought one of the most expensive versions of the Surface Book 2 (i7, 15 inches, 512 GB) and it its wifi connection is only half the speed of my old i5 and i3 laptops!!! IT IS UNACCEPTABLE for the price I paid (almost 3000 dollars for the computer, and if you add accessories and extended warranty, more than 3600!!).

I have tried everything: resetting the network, reinstalling the wireless adapter drivers, resetting windows from scratch...everything!. I have a 100 Mbps connection at home and all my laptops and smartphones get wifi speeds around 45-50 Mbps, but the SB2 gets 20 Mbps and most of the time it does not even get to 10 Mbps.

I have been reading many other testimonies online of people experiencing the same. I feel scammed. 

Not only that, it also seems that there is some kind of incompatibility with the design software I use (Sketchup and Vray). They work flawlessly in my older computers. They crash all the time with the Surface Book 2.

Seriously thinking about returning it. They pull you in with the shiny exterior, but it is a substandard product.

    I've been running into similar issues as well. My SB2 was SpeedTesting at 25Mbps while my iPhone 8 was SpeedTesting at ~400Mbps. While browsing around, I came across a fix that is currently working for me (we'll see for how long). Apologies if this was already mentioned, but I am not scrolling through a painful amount of pages just to see if someone has posted this already.

    1. Open Device Manager
    2. Scroll to the Controller for the Wireless AC card
    3. Right-click and select uninstall
    4. DO NOT delete the drivers
    5. Once that is done, right-click in Device Manager and select Scan for Hardware Changes
    6. Verify that the Wireless AC controller shows up again
    7. Retest your WiFi.

    Happy surfing.

    In addition to these steps do the following.  This helped my speeds greatly!

    7. Retest your WiFi

    1. Right click on the Marvel AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller and select Properties.
    2. Click on the Advanced tab
    3. Select the Band property then change the Value from Auto to either 2.4 GHz Only or 5 GHz Only depending on the connection to your WiFi router.  For me I have a Netgear Nighthawk X6 that offers both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi.  The two SSID's are named differently so I know that I'm connecting to the 5 GHz one.
    4. After selecting the Band value click OK and wait for the WiFi to reconnect.
    5. Retest your WiFi connection.  It should be way better.

    Again, all these steps we have to take to get faster WiFi speeds is ridiculous.  It should just work out of the box without any hassle.

    I was in the process of troubleshooting this on my own since Microsoft doesn't seem to want to really look at it, and this is what I found on my Surface Book 2. I have the biggest fastest one they sell and dropping WiFi is unacceptable. I purchased a stand alone WiFi adapter, disabled the Marvel adapter and my connection speed was great with no dropouts. But then I discovered the Bluetooth no longer worked. So the Marvel adapter is WiFi and Bluetooth. I re enabled the Marvel adapter and just turned off Bluetooth. Great speed and no dropouts. The surface pen still works with Bluetooth turned off it just doesn't have the shortcuts on the button. I changed my mouse over to a non Bluetooth mouse and everything is still great.

    On my unit it seems the Marvel adapter can not do both active Bluetooth and WiFi at the same time. This is a driver issue for sure, it is mixing the signals and dropping WiFi over Bluetooth. I also notice that Bluetooth was lagging but assumed it was the mouse, It wasn't. The Marvel adapter needs a complete re wright on the drivers. 

    Microsoft and Marvel need to get this resolved before they completely lose all respectability with their customers.

    The only other thing I did was make sure I always connected to 5GHz only.

    Hi,

    I am also affected by this bug, for me I should get 380Mbps but the speedtest will struggle to get upto 380mbps and sometimes even drops by 100mbps suddenly.

    Check to make sure that One Drive is not updating when you are checking speed. One Drive really slows mine down. Otherwise its as fast as the other connections.

    Nope my OneDrive was uptodate when I ran my latest speedtest.net scan
