Slow Wifi with brand new Surface Book 2!!!

It's a real PITA to fix, but this will do the trick; (LC - left click, RC - right click)

RC Wi-fi symbol on the status bar and LC "open Network ...."

LC "Change adapter options"

RC the connected Wi-fi 

LC "Properties"

LC "Configure"

LC "Advanced"

LC "Band" and from the drop-down on the right LC either 2.4 or 5 (De-select "Auto") depending on what your router does.

LC "OK" and close the various dialogues.

RC the Windows start button 

LC "Device Manager"

Open the "Network Adapters" collection

RC the Marvall Wireless adapter

LC "Uninstall device" (I know, I know)

DO NOT DELETE THE DEVICE - Just uninstall it.

Restart your SB 

The driver will magically reinstall upon reboot and all will be well.

Hi nowindowssss, did you try to change the WMM Power Save settings of the Marvell Wi-Fi Adapter? Change the value under Device Manager | Network adapters | Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller | Advanced | WMM-PS from Optimized to High Performance.

I had the same problem, really slow WIFI connectivity even when I was only a few meters away from the WIFI router. Additional finding: when opening Control Panel | Network and Internet | View network status and tasks | Connections | <wifi name> | Wi-Fi Status, the connection details show a really slow Connection Speed (like 11 Mbps or 19 Mbps) instead of the normal speeds over >> 100 Mbps.

After changing the setting, my Connection Speed went up to 130 Mbps within seconds. And it stayed high.

I'm curious to know if this also helps in your case.

Yay, Microsoft managed to break something yet again!

I was running with zero issues related to WiFi prior (just a slew of other issues ha). Just installed 1809 and latest Surface Book 2 firmware updates/drivers. Noticed computer is lagging, primarily when browsing the internet. Ran a speed test. Turns out that I am getting a fraction of the speed I should be, standing right next to router. Running speed test on other devices shows full speeds. I am talking as low as 0.15 mbps with full signal. Switching to 5ghz I get 30mbps on a partial signal which is full speed of the connection at the location I am presently at. Switch back to 2.4ghz and I see slow speeds.

Interesting enough, and could have been coincidence, but when I opened task manager I saw delivery optimization was using a lot of bandwidth on the receive side. I am fully updated, have no updates pending, and have the Windows Update Delivery Optimization settings disabled so I do not know why Delivery Optimization is even running in the background?

In any event, my SB2 is basically unusable for me because where I sit there is only 2.4ghz. The WiFi worked fine before these updates. I am also now getting a new BSOD. Thank you Microsoft for your excellent products!

I experience the same problems

1GB optical fiber connection (Netherlands)

Wireless I have approx. 25 mbps / down / 30mbps / up

Solution that helped me:

1. Turn off Bluetooth

speed went up to 45 / mbps / down / and 35 mbps / up

2.1) Wifi Adaper settings, (Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller)

Go to configuration, advanced, band

Select the desired bandwidth (2.4 ghz or 5 ghz) only!

2.2)

Select WMM-PS and select high performance.

Speed went up to 80 mbps / down and 35mbps / up

(what can be expected)

Unfortunately it is therefore not possible to use bluetooth and wifi at the same time, rather strange for a 3K+ laptop.

Seems like a driver update is needed!

I believe I may have found a fix for the Surface Book 2 slow wifi issue. Updating the NVIDIA graphics card drivers to the latest version, a normal restart, a force shutdown and then a 2 button (power & vol up) power on has fixed it. I now get full speed for 5GHz wifi on battery only (previously it only worked when plugged in).

Not sure which one of the actions fixed it, I updated the NVIDIA drivers as my power button had stopped working and someone had suggested it as a fix. Best guess; the NVIDIA drivers that ship with the Surface Book 2 have some sort of power management compatability issue and because they're a year out of date (July 2017) the fix implemented in later versions hasn't rolled out through windows update.

For anyone that wants to try the same (I tried all of the fixes mentioned elsewhere in this thread and none of them worked) here was my method:

1. Go to the NVIDIA site support section and download the relevant drivers (mine were the notebook 10 series GTX 1050 ones, I think the 15" version needs 1060 drivers?)
2. Install the drivers (my power button issue meant that the surface book kept "losing" the graphics card in device manager, detaching the screen and reattaching it let it find it again, but then I had to restart the install. Took 3 goes to complete the install)
3. Normal restart (just in case, I then got a BSOD and restarted again)
4. force shutdown (hold power button for ~20 seconds)
5. Two button power on (hold power button and volume up button down for ~30 seconds), the surface book booted to the UEFI and I just exited and it booted up normally.

After the above, my wifi has been fine and I've tested it with streaming high def files from YouTube, etc. and I checked with a large (700Mb) transfer between computers on my home network. Plus my power button works again :)
