Slow Wifi with brand new Surface Book 2!!!

I am so beyond disappointed!! I bought one of the most expensive versions of the Surface Book 2 (i7, 15 inches, 512 GB) and it its wifi connection is only half the speed of my old i5 and i3 laptops!!! IT IS UNACCEPTABLE for the price I paid (almost 3000 dollars for the computer, and if you add accessories and extended warranty, more than 3600!!).

I have tried everything: resetting the network, reinstalling the wireless adapter drivers, resetting windows from scratch...everything!. I have a 100 Mbps connection at home and all my laptops and smartphones get wifi speeds around 45-50 Mbps, but the SB2 gets 20 Mbps and most of the time it does not even get to 10 Mbps.

I have been reading many other testimonies online of people experiencing the same. I feel scammed.

Not only that, it also seems that there is some kind of incompatibility with the design software I use (Sketchup and Vray). They work flawlessly in my older computers. They crash all the time with the Surface Book 2.

Seriously thinking about returning it. They pull you in with the shiny exterior, but it is a substandard product.

Sorry, but I think that restricting this issue to mesh networks is a bit of a red herring: there are many of using these devices who have this issue with regular, non-mesh networks.

I have made numerous attempts to resolve this slow wireless issue on 3 different SB2 units, but nothing seems to help.

Well, I do think that the SB2 wifi module seems to showcase more problem than only in mesh networks as i tested my TP-Link router as well with it. The speed gets troublesome even with this router, at distances where my other notebook keeps a better speed. I am disappoited that either of us has problems and a host of others users maybe as well. I just pointed to the fact that mesh networks with their density advantage fare no better sadly with SB2.

I have pinned it down to both my SB2 and Ubiquiti Amplifi Router (Mesh Router!!!).

    Some observations in my case:

(1): It seems that in task manager the speed is stated is definitively at odds with the adapter status information (Network usage always 100% and inconsistent with status info of network adapter [e.g., I am downloading at 100 Mbits and adapter says 24 Mbits)].

(2): Also, when I am only some meters away from the mesh point next to me, the speed goes down faster than in other Notebooks (My 4 year old Gigabyte is faster still, in terms of WIFI speed).

(3): Non mesh routers (like TP-Link 5G types) are not causing so much fluctuations in the speed, as I could test with my AC1750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router. I can't really blame the Ubiquiti as SB2 seems to be the only notebook affected!

(4): The more devices are using the bandwidth (even too a lesser degree than SB2 itself) SB2 will reduce the speed significantly!

All-in-all: no solution presented here so far was relieving the major flaw of SB2 (again Wifi as in Surface Pros). I am heavily disappointed by MS! I may return this piece of low quality 'thought put into' electronics.

I truely hope this is a permanently working fix! I just got my Surfacebook 2 and am disappointed outwright with the wifi speed upon unboxing it! What a shame for first impressions!

    Doesn't work for me :-(

I am day 2 of my surface book 2 13" i7 8GB ram and 256 GB storage and my internet is slow too.

    Thinking of returning

I think that there are enough of us experiencing these issues for Microsoft to acknowledge there is an issue with this component, or its implementation and do something about it. I have also contacted Marvell directly, but have not received any reply so far.

The warehouses are soon going to be full of returned units!
