Surface Earbuds has a static hissing sound in left ear when on video calls.

My main problem is that when I am using my Surface Earbuds with my Surface Book 2 and on video calls through Zoom there is a distinct static/hissing sound coming out of the left earbud when someone else is talking. The right earbud does not have this problem. When listening to music or making calls on my Galaxy S9+ I do not have this problem at all. The batteries have been fully charged before using them and I have also update the firmware to 3.0.0.5 which is the latest update available and still have this problem. When in a conference call the audio and mic are connected to Surface Earbuds Hands-Free AG Audio.

I've spent a little more time with the BT settings on my phone and things have only gotten worse for me in terms of believing in this product. I found that the BT settings have 2 options: Calls and Audio. When you have both turned on the music sounds like garbage. Turn off "Calls" and the music sounds amazing...but you cannot use them for phone calls anymore.

I bought these earbuds so I could listen to phone calls, Teams (video conferencing) as well as listen to music.

It would seem the software/driver would be able to turn on/off the Calls or Audio features  "as-needed" but that isn't the case here. Is there a firmware update coming or do we need to return these and do what we have traditionally done with all other MS products: Wait for release 3.

That set-up doesn't work. For example on Teams - if you set your Mic to the Hands-Free AG Audio setting you'll get a notification that your mic isn't working.

Yes you lose the M365 integration. But no, the other statement is inaccurate. It's still connected via Bluetooth as a headset and using the headset mic.
