Is your AptX still on? Did you do anything different?
Surface Earbuds has a static hissing sound in left ear when on video calls.
My main problem is that when I am using my Surface Earbuds with my Surface Book 2 and on video calls through Zoom there is a distinct static/hissing sound coming out of the left earbud when someone else is talking. The right earbud does not have this problem. When listening to music or making calls on my Galaxy S9+ I do not have this problem at all. The batteries have been fully charged before using them and I have also update the firmware to 3.0.0.5 which is the latest update available and still have this problem. When in a conference call the audio and mic are connected to Surface Earbuds Hands-Free AG Audio.

2020-09-17T18:53:29+00:00 I received 3.0.0.6 about a week ago. The hiss in the left ear was still there.
Today, for the first time there is no hiss.
I use these DAILY for phone calls and the hiss went away between yesterday and today.
Version still shows 3.0.0.6

2020-09-08T13:15:56+00:00 I've being monitoring this thread for a while because I have a similar problem, which happens only when listening to calls on my phone (Samsung Galaxy A40). I never reset the buds to factory settings, neither asked for a replacement, because both solutions didn't look as the correct approach to me.
Now, with new firmware upgrade 3.0.0.6, I tried disabling AptX (now available as an option in the settings). Result: problem solved.
Of course SBS audio quality is not the same, but don't use the earbuds for music so much.
However, I have a suggestion, especially since on my PC the AptX option worked flawlessly. Would it be possible to enable/disable AptX per device, instead of globally?

2020-09-03T23:08:37+00:00 IMPROVED!
I installed the 3.0.0.6 update, and I can say that the left ear hiss is greatly improved, but not eliminated.
For example, if you open Settings > Device properties > Additional device properties > "Headset Properties" for "Surface Earbuds Hands-Free AG Audio" > Advanced > there is a "Test" button. Prior to this update, when I clicked this Test button, the hiss was very bad, almost crackling. After the update I cannot detect a hiss via this test. I performed this test while I was simultaneously on a Teams conference call. The Teams conference call still has a little hiss in the left ear when folks are loud, but improved to the point where I am not annoyed? We shall see.
