Word 2016 (Office 365) : When open the document file, font in equation always show the sqaure box.

I have used Microsoft Office Word 2016 with Windows 8.1.

When I type the equation, it works. Cambria Math in equation font shows correctly.

However, when I open the docx files from Word 2013. The Cambria Math font always show the square box.

Although I can fix it by changing the square box font to Cambria Math font, it is not the effective solution.

Repairing the MS Office 365 does not work.

How can I fixed this problem ? I can not see the solution from MS.

...

Now (8 Oct. 2016), I have bought the surface pro 4 (Windows 10).

However, when a document file with equation was created and saved by Word 2016, the square box will be appeared for the next opening.

However, I can change the font to Cambria Math and it will be corrected.

Nevertheless, next time of opening, it always show the square box.

Please help me, I think there is a problem about the equation of Word 2016.

Dear Harsha Rasquinha, Thank you for your answer.

I have opened many document files of Word 2013 and I noted that:

All files created by me (Windows 8.1 on iMac, Macbook Air, Acer R7) can be opened and the font can be shown correctly.

However, some files (all new files and old files) in my computer that received from a person always show the square box.  I can fix it by clicking the equation and change the font to Cambria Math font.

Then, I think that my MS Word 2016 (Office 365) is OK. It works correctly. It may be the mistake about the computer of my friend.

Thank you very much for your helps.

    Hi,

Let us create a new file in word 2016 with Font in equation on windows on mac computer and check if the issue occurs in new document or the issue is with one particular document.

You may also try saving the issue document (Word 2013) in Word 2016 and check.

When opening Word 2013 document in Word 2016, do you get any compatibility message at the top of the document.

Let us open Word 2016----file—info----check for issues----check compatibility.

Hope this information helps you. Please let us know if you need additional information.

    Thank you.

I have the office 365 license.

I don't install more versions of office in a OS system in a PC.

At home, it is a 2016 version (installed in this year) on my computer (iMac) with Windows 8.1 Enterprise (License from my work) but at work, it is a 2013 version (installed last 2 years) on Windows 8.1 Home (OEM, ACER R7).

At home, it is the iMac. I have used the bootcamp for installing the windows 8.1 Enterprise. When I boot the iMac with Windows 8.1, there is the error about Cambria Math font in equation (as I said).

However, I have the Macbook Air and used office 2013 (office 365 that installed last 2 years) on Windows 8.1 too. There is not the problem. It can show the font in equation correctly.

Then, I think that there is a problem about office 2016. However, I try to check the update this evening.
