Surface Laptop Studio will not charge occasionally / depletes battery at alarming rate.

Every once in awhile my Surface Laptop Studio will refuse to charge - or atleast it says it's charging but clearly isn't. The battery then depletes at a rate of almost 1% every minute until in shuts off at 0%. Then I have to repeatedly restart it, plug in charging cable, for almost an hour to get it to start charging again. This isn't a charger issue. This is possibly some odd software issue.

Why Microsoft wants be to make a post instead of talking to an employee is beyond me.

Thank you for your patience and feedback as we worked on this. A fix is now available through Windows Update. After installing the update, please restart (not Shutdown) your Surface Laptop Studio. If the issue continues to occur, here is a workaround that has helped others start charging again:

  1. Connect your Surface power supply and make sure the power connector light is on.
  2. Save all your work and shutdown your Surface.
  3. Once shutdown, press and hold down the power button, you will see the Windows logo screen flash and then turn off, continue to hold down the power button (about 20 seconds) until you see the Windows logo screen flash again and then release the power button.

    It seems once you have this problem, the normal charging port is useless and your only options are to use a USB-C charger or send it back and get a replacement.

    That MuyangLi just bought one and it failed is a big worry. I've arrange for a replacement, but I'm beginning to think I'll have the same problem again.

    I purchased a SLS exactly a week ago. It just stopped charging all of a sudden. I've tried everything:

    • forced shutdown
    • charging with usb-c and switch
    • delete battery driver
    • flip the charging tip 180 degree
    • use a different charger (I have a 3rd party 102W charger for my still running Surface Book2, and the new charger that came with SLS was still able to charge my old Surface Book2)
    • roll back system update and re-update the system
    • reset the system twice

    The only thing I didn't try is to wait for the battery to be drained, but this is just stupid, it's not good for the battery and if it didn't work, it would be just a waste of time.

    Although the computer can be charged using USB-C, but I believe a device this expensive and supposedly this premium should not lack its actual main power source and making half of its i/o ports only suitable for power delivery, and for which I need to purchase a 3rd party charger separately.

    This is absolutely unacceptable. So I send it back to the retailer and asked for a new device, since Microsoft would only give you a refurbished one.

    Fingers crossed that MS noticed this problem and improved their quality control or their internal design and actually improved based on the numerous feedback, so newer device wouldn't have the same problem. (I highly doubt it)

    I'll try the 127W as Microsoft already send it to me. In the meantime I was tols that "the team is investigating the issue"... We will see, if this won't work, I'll demand my money back.

    I've tried a 127W charger, it didn't work for me.

    There is something seriously wrong with the microsoft charging port, and with so many people having the same issue, it looks like a design flaw.

    I started a return, but stopped as it states I will receive a refurbished item. My PC is in perfect condition other than this issue and I don't really want to get a scuffed up replacement, I want my unit fixed. Is that wrong of me?

    USB-C charging works, so for the moment I'm going wait and see if there is a resolution with the view to get it replaced before the clock runs out on my warranty.
