Surface Laptop Studio will not charge occasionally / depletes battery at alarming rate.

Every once in awhile my Surface Laptop Studio will refuse to charge - or atleast it says it's charging but clearly isn't. The battery then depletes at a rate of almost 1% every minute until in shuts off at 0%. Then I have to repeatedly restart it, plug in charging cable, for almost an hour to get it to start charging again. This isn't a charger issue. This is possibly some odd software issue.

Why Microsoft wants be to make a post instead of talking to an employee is beyond me.

Thank you for your patience and feedback as we worked on this. A fix is now available through Windows Update. After installing the update, please restart (not Shutdown) your Surface Laptop Studio. If the issue continues to occur, here is a workaround that has helped others start charging again:

Connect your Surface power supply and make sure the power connector light is on.
Save all your work and shutdown your Surface.
Once shutdown, press and hold down the power button, you will see the Windows logo screen flash and then turn off, continue to hold down the power button (about 20 seconds) until you see the Windows logo screen flash again and then release the power button.

I don’t blame you for returning. I definitely have buyers remorse and will never buy a Microsoft computer/non console product again based on the lack of support/response. Needing to spend another $100 to fix their broken equipment is… B#%%**$&&

I believe there are two separate issues. I had rebooted just fine, but this solution suddenly stopped working and the frequency of the issue became multiple times a day. I can’t return so I purchased an appropriate usbc charger, which fixed my charging issue completely. I suspect the usbc bypasses both issues. One seemed software related the other hardware.

Either way, if you can’t return (I highly recommend if the functionality isn’t a greater need, and you’re able to return the laptop) then going the usbc route is the “best” fix I have found. I’ve had zero issues since going this route.

Mine now requires two solutions. One was the hard reboot, but now I’m running into an issue where that doesn’t work and an unplug, pause, replicas is required to get power. I suspect there’s more than one issue.

Hi again,

I see this has been going on for a long time now to. Is there no better fix available than wait until you have lost everything then hold the power button until a hard restart occurs?!?

Mine was brand new to, at $4K a unit it should be better than this.

I had send an update as there in my ticket (1046947923) with Microsoft Surface Support now.

Let me hear a status....
