Many people do not know how to set sleep or hibernate settings. That's why I mentioned it. Most people as in the average person, that is. Not IT people, which I assume that would be you, as am I. They also, wouldn't know, even though they may haven't had issues with sleep\hibernate in the past on ten or so machines, that there has always been problems with sleep\hibernate in Windows.
I do agree with you on the active display cables. Again, most average people wouldn't know that either, because even on the display cable adapter packaging, it seems that they try to make it not obvious depending on the manufacturer. I don't agree that the display cable adapter has to be a Microsoft branded adapter, because in all honesty they are overpriced for what they are. For simplicity, yes, buy the Microsoft branded display cables, but even when other people have mentioned it in this thread that they in fact bought the Microsoft display cables and they still didn't work.
I also agree that all firmware needs to be updated. But, honestly the average person shouldn't have to do that, and the process to update the firmware for the dock at least, is convoluted and I doubt the average person would get it done the first time they tried. I'm just explaining it in my posts to the average person that may be having problems with their Surface dock 1 or 2 with their displays, because I know the many people I support aren't necessarily computer people and you shouldn't have to be just to get a computer to do what it was deigned to do.
