I saw this once early on with my Surface Duo (original). I did a had reset (hold the power button until the screen closes and a reboot begins) and I never saw it again.
Surface Duo V1 - Battery/Charging Issue
I have provided the link to another case I found on the forum that detailed the same problem.
Essentially, I plugged my phone in to charge as I have done traditionally, it was at 16% battery. I unplugged it when my first alarms went off in the morning. When my following alarms didnt go off less than an hour later, I woke up to find the phone was off and giving me the low battery logo on the "dead" screen like you would see when the phone has insufficient power to boot.
I plugged the Duo to charge again and it consistently gave me the same dead status. I eventually got it powered after 20 min of charging. The battery icon claimed over 90% battery. after a few minutes, it died again.
I am assuming there is either a miscommunication regarding the battery status and/or a discharge issue involving the contact points from the battery to the processor?? As it stands, the phone has yet to die while in use and charging. I will test different scenarios when it's unplugged to find some sort of pattern.
I should include that I confirmed the phone is up to date and has not been subject to any trauma or moisture. I have performed an intentional restart and will monitor any changes. I am hoping a replacement is not necessary but wanted to start the thread now in case I cannot resolve the issue.
This phone is approximately 7 months old since it was sent to me from Microsoft.

2021-12-27T19:33:09+00:00 Much appreciated. I will remember that if it resurfaces. after multiple soft resets over a few hours, the problem resolved itself. I wish I still had my Duo V2, sent back the black one due to the fingerprints and never bothered to reorder the white V2.
